[ED] Discussion: Trans Women Are not Women (Part 6)

It definitely is not as big a deal as some transphobes make it out to be when arguing "prepubescent kids shouldn't transition".

Maybe you should lay off the reflexive labeling of people who don't agree with you as bigots. It doesn't sound like you're open to discussion, when you do that.

Virtually everyone in this thread is a trans rights activist. LJ is attempting to re-make everyone that disagrees with him on any point as a transphobic bigot.

I was considering objecting to Theprestige's peak trans narrative, but now that you mention it, it does seem too stilted to be real. It seems like he's trying to re-make himself.

If you don't want an honest answer to a question that starts with "is it transphobic to..." then don't ask it, because the answer may very well be "yes".

Now that you have a better idea of transitioning means for prepubescent children, and you do not have a problem with it, may be you are not transphobic.

Here's the true insanity of it.

My "transphobia" has nothing to do with how I treat transpeople, but how I treat cis-people.

A transperson can come in my bathroom and I couldn't care less. I'm a transphobe because I won't kick the cis-person of the other biological sex than me out of the bathroom so the transperson is a special exception to the rule.

What a dishonest answer. I'm asking you to not assume people are transphobic just for disagreeing with you on aspects of the discussion.

See? You are browbeating people into agreeing with you by saying that they are transphobic if they don't. Hell, even if they do they may still be transphobic.

If they are making a transphobic argument why shouldn't it be called as it is?

I mean I guess they go around telling all children that they can not possibly know what gender they are but that seems highly unlikely as that behavior seems exclusive a reaction to trans children.

Arkansas legislature has overridden the governor's veto. The bill makes it illegal for children to receive trans affirming medical care in the state and is expected to take effect in July.

https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/arkansas-lawmakers-enact-transgender-youth-treatment-ban-n1263197

The Trevor Project's 2020 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health found that more than half (52 percent) of transgender and nonbinary youths seriously considered suicide in the previous year, compared to 40 percent of all LGBTQ youth respondents.

Research shows that gender-affirming medical care can reduce depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation among trans youth, according to the Trevor Project.

Arkansas lawmakers will have blood on their hands if this clearly bigoted law survives legal challenge.

Did you notice that this has nothing to do with the question you were responding to?

I assumed you were referring to a bill.

ETA: Earthborn has a point (although it may not be exactly what she meant). If your compass of whether a statement is bigoted is so weak that you have to ask someone, then you practically are a bigot.

 Where did that theory come from?

Meadmaker's proposal so far does not include allowing transmen to the male division and transwomen to the female division.

I said that leagues could allow exceptions if people had undergone medical treatments. I can't remember the exact phrasing of what I said, but it was there.

North Carolina getting in on the trans-bashing action:

The NC bill would criminalize any doctor that provides trans affirming medications or surgeries to any person under the age of 21. It also mandates that all state employees notify parents of any child's "gender nonconformity".

Seems that the right wing bigots in this country are dusting off the anti-abortion and anti-gay playbook of years gone by, attacking doctors and outing children to their potentially bigoted parents.

I'm "on the other side" of this issue, but that's just plain nuts. In all seriousness, it's so nuts that I will probably look up the bill to see if the news stories are grossly distorting the reality of the bill. I can't see how a bill like that could even get a hearing.

I could see one of our super-right GOP state senators introducing a deliberately over the top anti-trans bill to establish his bona-fides with his right wing constituency. There are a lot of kooks in state legislatures. The jobs usually don't pay all that much, so they don't always attract the best people.

Anyway, if the bill is as described, it's kooky, and I would hope it dies a quick death, unworthy of mention. I guess we'll see.

That doesn't even make any sense. Nor does it refer to anything said here. That's such a weird thing to post that I struggle to see what the point is.

I've asked what is specifically transphobic about that part of the bill. We've had discussion in this thread about the possible ills of transitioning children before puberty or using blockers. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the question. Irrespective of the overreach issue, I wanted to know why even raising the point was seen as transphobic.
