Beavers are being reintroduced to Wales. It's hoped that they will help to manage waterways and reduce flooding.

The first officially-licenced beavers have been released in Wales.

The pair - an adult male and its offspring - arrived from Scotland on Friday to their new home on the Cors Dyfi Nature Reserve in Powys.

The usual suspects are opposed to it:

Some fishermen and farmers had opposed the plans amid concerns over the potential impact on the landscape.

I hope that this proves to be as successful as the reintroduction of the Red Kite - we even see a few around here - but not as destructive as the unplanned release of wild boar.

Thought Brexit meant we’d stop all these single parent immigrants, and I see they were moved to the top of the housing list!

Or the grey squirrel.....
Seriously what's wrong with a nice tea service as a wedding present?

These have been introduced from Scotland. Undeniably a savage and strange land but (at least currently) part of the UK. :p

What, you've not seen the herds of Meissen devastating the Berkshire prairies ?
:D
I'm sure that in this heady days of freedom from Europe the UK will never need to worry about expensive imported porcelain again...

Manage waterways? They'll do that, all right: they are essentially engineers who don't care about consequence and cannot be held to account. The dam things have destroyed towns before through rerouting water.

We aren’t talking about the Tory government in Westminster!

Or some cofleidio coed and some

Nope, and I haven’t seen Sydney Opera House or the Hanging Gardens of Babylon either.

And I shall expect a reduction because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment.

Yes. Beavers are notorious for building their dams in inconvenient (for people) places, and once they decide a they want a dam in a particular location, they will keep rebuilding it in that location no matter how many times people tear it out. Generally the only way to deal with such a problem is to trap the beavers and relocate them far away or kill them.

They can also give you Beaver Fever.

It does sort of sound like modern management. Turn them loose, hope they do something useful, then get rid of them when they **** up.
