Dover verdict is in!

Some say that over the past 50+ years we've been treated to fair number of arbitrary and capricious government actions.

Of course, none of the people that say that are actually credible legal scholars -- or else the various positions actions you cite would have been overturned by the various courts that have instead ruled in their favor.

Whether I agree with them or not is irrelevant. The SCOTUS, who actually gets to make the decision, agrees with them.

Everyone interested in this topic should read Randi's latest commentary. The section entitled "Hallelujah" concerns the Dover verdict.

He tried to draw a parallel between ID and the theory of the Big Bang, which was initially resisted by physicists of the 1920s. Eventually, enough evidence accumulated in support of the Big Bang that it became “scientific orthodoxy,” in the sneering phrase this joker used.

Ah, yes, the "they laughed at Einstein" defense. They also laughed at Bozo the Clown...

Then he breathed some defiance of the we’ll-be-back-and-then-youse’ll-be-sorry type. He finished by saying that he was neither a physicist nor a fundie – but someday, someday evidence will prove that ID is true!

Great. I'll make him a deal: I'll pay very close attention when they do have the evidence if they agree to shut the hell up about it until then.

I could feel chariable, being the winner and all.

Not me. I'm pissed about having to fight it at all.

Ditto. Unfortunately, far too many scientists laughed this stuff for too long before they were lulled out of their complacency. It is my sincere hope the Jones ruling doesn't lull them back asleep, assuming the battle is over. As Randi comments, it is far from over.

Well, I'm kinda pissed, but it sure is great entertainment. Look at how much pleasure we got out of reading the transcripts and judge's finding. Look at how smuggity-smug-smugeroo we can be now.

It ain't going away. You might as well enjoy it.

Read the Randi commentary.

Since the Dover school board now has sensible people on it, what happens next? If there is no appeal, does this verdict have any bearing on matters in other states?

Also, cant someone do something (based on this) about the Kansas board of morons?

This doesn't happen in other countries because society as a whole is sufficiently educated that the irrational people can't get a critical mass of support. It's not going to stop happening in this country unless a) there are enough critical thinkers in positions of media influence and political power to inhibit such stupidity, or b) we actively eliminate irrational people.

Fighting this ar is pointless. They are a dying society. We should let them pass.
