Ed Corona Virus Conspiracy Theories....

As a new member of International Skeptics Forum, I'd like to start by saying I'm in wholehearted agreement with those who are skeptical about Covid-19.

The Covid Plague seems like the greatest, (and most extraordinarily-documented, both anecdotally and otherwise), fiction ever produced since the one about an angel who hovered over the Virgin Mary causing her to give birth to the Son of God.

This Covid fiction seems to be about on a par with Saddam Hussein's Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq story that hundreds of millions of people in NATO countries and elsewhere were led to believe.

It is far larger than such fictions as "Joseph Smith and the Golden Tablets," which is apparently only believed by about 16 million Mormons world-wide.

It has been proven to the satisfaction of billions of Christians that over 10,000 saints have performed at least two miracles in the name of Jesus Christ, and bookstores everywhere devote shelf space to stories about how and why Jesus died for our sins and other stories; and it seems possible, imvho, that a study of the politics and economics of just how this belief developed and spread might shed some light on how a sometimes nasty cold virus blossomed into a plague of Biblical proportions.

If it's all a fiction, who benefits from it? Someone must, otherwise why go to the effort?

Okay, you spilled a bit more virtual ink than necessary detailing how appalled you are at the scope of this hoax you perceive.

Now spend a little detailing how you came to this conclusion.

Am canceling this duplicate.

I didn't call it a hoax because I don't think this was centrally-planned, but was a confluence of interests, including a panic-porn-loving press.

It smelled fishy from the beginning, with vague references to pangolins and Chinese weapons labs, etc.

As a newbie, I can't submit links, but for starters, I would suggest that you google C.diff (Clostrid1um difficile), and note how differently nursing home and hospice care deaths with late C. diff are reported as compared to alleged CV-19 deaths.

A pandemic like this has been predicted for decades, and was in fact inevitable. What is 'fishy' about it actually happening? And what alternative explanation for the excess deaths shown in the graph I posted do you have?

My explanation for excess deaths is longer and more complicated than I want to try to explain here, and I'm not sure that it is correct at this point, anyway.

But for predictions, I think that George Carlin accurately predicted this situation back in 2008.

Carlin's comments are available on You Tube, but, again, I can't provide a link to them.

Wrong.

Some sort of alternative, plausible, explanation is required if you're expecting your claims to be taken seriously.

Pretty sure George Carlin was not an epidemiologist.

The link thing is just to stop bots spamming the forum. Post a link with spaces instead of dots and someone else will convert it for you.

Fair enough, but by the same token, I don't find explanations for the complete disappearance of seasonal flu, which, as you know, was treated by vaccinations for new strains every year, to be plausible.

And I've heard a rumor that deaths attributed to cancer and heart disease have been reported to have gone down as those attributed to Covid have gone up, which seems suspicious, but consider me to be a conspiracy nut, because I don't have a link to provide, even if it were allowed.

An appropriate analogy for the conspiracy theory you're championing would be something like the Apollo hoax claim, or flat earth belief. This is because they, like the conspiracy theory you're defending, require the complete complicity of literally millions of experts all over the world. I mean, if it's so transparently obvious to a bunch of untrained people watching YouTube videos and reading websites by people with little to no medical knowledge, then actual medical experts must be participating in a global conspiracy involving a massive number of people with understanding of infectious diseases.

We've got "I have compelling evidence but can't be bothered to present it".

Anyone up for a round of CT bingo?

Influenza hasn't disappeared. It simply has been denied transmission vectors on a large scale because people are observing measures to avoid the transmission of a more dangerous virus. What is so esoteric about that?

I once heard a rumor that NASA was so worried that Gus Grissom might go public with his safety concerns regarding the Block I CSM that they murdered him and his crewmates by staging a fire, and blamed it on a safety issue with the CSM.
