Adios Lou Dobbs

They won't change until they come up with a plan, and it's hard to see what that might be. Going back to everyday opposition to a Democratic government is the default, but I doubt that'll work in today's market.

Fox News has become the centerpiece of the Fox corportation in the US since Murdoch decided to sell off all his non news oreinted media to Disney...which stucke me as a dumb move.

It was the dumbest move ever. The Murdoch family used to be able to control corporate votes and raise capital by issuing 2nd class non-voting shares. Eventually the Murdoch's voting shares became diluted, so they sold off Fox Entertainment to regain monopoly voting rights in Fox News only.

Now that was dumb. They could have sold off Fox News and kept Fox Entertainment. As the world buys entertainment, that would have mitigated profit variations, unlike being tied to one US market with Fox News. (It's a bit like having a varied share portfolio to average out the return)

Lachlan Murdoch already historically, lost Australia's free-to-air CH10 and had his Australia telcom "One-Tel" collapse. Lachlan does not have a good track record in media business.

You know that thing about smiling cheering you up? I wonder if Lou Dobbs feels crabby all the time.

Holy crap. It's like a bad movie where the president is being controlled by evil aliens and the talking head has taken a massive bribe to support him publicly. Except in the movie he realizes his mistake just before being eaten by the aliens.

I love the moment of the clip in which Hannity has a look of panic when he realizes he has been out-sycophanted by LD.

Apparently Murdoch though he could become a major force in Disney with the stock he got in the deal but he has been frozen out by an almost all the other Major Disney Stockholders simply banding together to keep him from getting any power.
Even Rupert has best not mess with The Mouse...

  • Hannity: "He's not perfect, no one's perfect."
  • Dobbs: "Well, he's pretty close to perfect, Sean."

I don't get it. Are there two donald trumps? The one who was in the White House and the one Hannity and Dobbs are talking about?

There are reports that one reason Fox was already looking at cutting ties with Dobbs, was the news host had become increasingly difficult to work with. Prone to bouts of anger and rants.

Imaginary scene in Dobbs' office:
  • Dobbs: "President trump, the greatest leader...ever!"
  • Clueless assistant: "Okay but... Isn't he supposed to be phony?"
  • Dobbs: "WTH?!?"
  • Clueless assistant: "No, he's okay, but... Isn't he supposed to lie about everything?"
  • Dobbs: GET OUT! YOU'RE FIRED!"
  • Clueless assistant: "I'm fired?"
  • Dobbs: "GET OUT!!!"

A few minutes later, a timid knock on the door.

  • Clueless assistant: "Mr. Dobbs, I just wanted to ask you, um, do I qualify for unemployment?"
  • Dobbs: "You !@#!%%#!!!!" Dobbs bends over and slams his head on the desk.
  • Clueless assistant: "Mr Dobbs! Are you okay. Are you..."
  • Dobbs: "G-E-T O-U-T!!!"
  • Clueless assistant: "Sir you've got a nasty gash on your forehead."

He might be the first sacrifice to be thrown into the volcano. I expect Fox will see if the gods are placated and if not, in goes another one.

If Dobbs truly sees Trump that way, I just have to shake my head at what kind of sick, sick man he has to be.

A report from CNN Business
Dobbs was once "respected as a business journalist," former Fox News executive John Huddy said in an email message. But in recent years he had been "out of control, reckless and bad tempered," Huddy said, articulating some of the factors that may have weighed on management's decision...As one insider put it, Dobbs' ratings didn't justify the headaches. While he was the highest-rated host on Fox Business, the network is relatively low-rated across the board. Dobbs averaged 300,000 viewers on a typical day at 5 p.m. ET. The show reached smaller audiences when it re-aired multiple times later in the day. CNN link

See the highlighted parts? Other sources have reported that Dobbs had become increasingly difficult to work with. How could anyone 'report' the kinds of things Dobbs did --trump was 'sent by God,' trump was the 'greatest president in American history,' and would be 'venerated for century after century,' -- and maintain their self-respect, not to mention their emotional equilibrium?

Despite Dobbs' notoriety, he had a relatively tiny audience, averaging 300,000 viewers per show. In common with the 329.7 million 'other' Americans who didn't watch him, I knew the name but can't remember ever watching him except for maybe a moment or two. When I landed on the Fox Business channel by mistake. ;)

I say this with all sincerity: I think Dobbs was becoming increasingly mentally unstable. There's sycophancy of the type we see in Lindsey Graham and then there's Dobb's which crosses the line into godlike worship.
