It is down to where the goods are going from and to not the nationality of the recipient.
Although there is no customs duty between the UK and the EU there may be import taxes (VAT) there will also need to be a customs declaration. I suspect companies like UPS will offer to do the customs declaration for sellers giving them the choice to pay UPS for completing the declaration or passing on UPS's cost to the customer.

As all of this is new for trade between the UK and EU I expect rampant profiteering until people get used to the charges and we get proper competition. I suspect the Finnish ID is part of that profiteering.

I've now received the same text message in English and there's some small print I didn't spot the first time. It says if the recipient doesn't pay the customs fees then it reverts to the sender of the item. Oh-oh. I've let the person in England who sent it know he might be getting a customs demand for goodness knows how much. I haven't even had the parcel yet.

So it seems that either the recipient or the sender can pay the customs fee. It is no skin off the nose of UPS. What a waste of time.

Nous reprendrons le contrôle de nos eaux de pêche. Wir werden die Kontrolle über unsere Fischgewässer. zurückerobern. Vi tager kontrol over vores fiskerivand tilbage. Θα ανακτήσουμε τον έλεγχο των αλιευτικών υδάτων μας. Mes atsiimsime savo žvejybos vandenų kontrolę. Retomaremos el control de nuestras aguas de pesca. Otamme takaisin kalastusvesiemme hallinnan.....

Sehr gut!

The current UKGov was chosen for loyalty to BoBo (or at least lack of threat to the Bouffant Buffoon) and willingness to pander to the Brexiteers. Competence or skills were utterly unimportant. Hence the current messes.

'Bouffant'? When was it ever bouffant? I've only ever seen him with an unruly mass of straw-like protrusions.

Truck drivers are going to be charged £50 an hour by HMRC for waiting at 'inland border facilities' while they await customs clearance in an attempt to reduce queues and congestion.
Also if the 24 hour Kent road permit time is exceeded the driver is fined £300

I bet the EU hauliers and truck drivers are simply chomping at the bit to export and import to the UK, especially after spending a very jolly Christmas in the festive Kent lorry park...NOT!

Great plan. There won't be any queues if nobody bothers importing or exporting anything!

This guy here, a wine importer, gives a good account of the difficulties of the system here, and he was well-prepared.

Six months ago my business started to prepare for Brexit. We obtained the following licences and accreditations JUST to maintain the status quo. EORI number, RORO badge for Chief, GBRC number, GBWK number, we already had ARWS and DAN accounts. 2/26

All of this took nearly five months a lot of form filling but on the 9th December this was all in place. So I would say whilst we knew Brexit would be a car crash we did not know it was going to be a multiple pile up in the fog with fatalities. 3/26

Under the “you couldn’t make it up” the UK based pro-brexit Leave.EU pressure group has tried to change where they register their domain so they can keep using the .EU suffix....

That response rom "communication director" is hilarious:
Leave.EU communications director Andy Wigmore said the site would be back up soon.

“Our lawyers will be taking action against those – and they know who they are – who have broken those delicious EU laws they love so much,” he said.

Mr Wigmore dismissed Mr Richmond as a “third-rate EU fanatic”, adding: “Any more nonsense from Brussels-lovers like him and we may decide to put the full weight of Leave.EU behind the Irexit campaign.”

Regarding UKIP, they're finished.
There's absolutely no point in that party continuing whatsoever.

The most sensible thing Neil Hamilton could do as leader, is call it a day.
It's over.

Shock Brexit charges are hurting us, say small British businesses

.... But Alex Paul, who jointly runs a successful family business that features in the Department for International Trade’s list of national “export champions”, disagrees. And he wants the real story to be told. .....

... As far as I can see, currently, companies like ours in the UK are not going to be able to do ‘end sales’ to customers in the EU any more. Particularly, small orders for anything under £100 will be completely impossible,” says Paul. ....

... Jobs lost will be lost here,” he says. “That is the reality. All of these fees will come straight off profit margins.
“We might save some of the increased costs of doing business in Europe by setting up a warehouse there – and thereby avoid paying charges on every consignment – but we would have to make redundancies in our warehouse here and reduce the size of the business footprint in the UK ....

Anyone who's seen my thread on my own encounter with this particular "Brexit Benefit" will probably be able to imagine my response to seeing this story. I would give my feelings on the matter but the autocensor would render it unintelligible.

I asked him if he has paid anything upfront apart from postage. The answer was, 'no'. HOWEVER, apparently, the package is from Amazon.

Has Amazon boobed?

No, they've sent a parcel to the address they were given. Customs and import duties are not the responsibility of Amazon.

Not sure exactly what the process is in Finland but i imagine it will be held by the post office until you pay what is owed.

Of course you have to pay BEFORE you receive the parcel, why would anyone pay otherwise?

ETA: For future reference if you are getting sent any more Amazon parcels better to purchase from an EU Amazon site like amazon.de and then there won't be any taxes or customs to worry about.
