If you are referring to reports of a Capitol police officer dying as a result of yesterday’s attack, that is apparently incorrect; no officer has died.

All four fatalities were members of the mob that attacked the Capitol. And, yes, I’m sorry they died. Especially because they died for such stupid lies as they were fed by Trump, “Q”, Fox, OANN, and the various many other grifters (Hawley and Cruz included) profiting from their gullibility.

ETA: Here it is claimed the officer is on life support. I don’t have any other sources, so I don’t know for sure, but I certainly hope the officer recovers fully and promptly.

Trump/‘Q’- driven Covid denialism helped kill another four thousand Americans yesterday, and that’s just fine for these types. What, do you expect them to feel regrets for just four people who died for such flagrant stupidity?

First, I'm not defending the Capitol Police, just trying to explain their actions.


The Capitol Police are a self contained entity who fall directly under the control of Congress. They are not D.C. cops. As such their training is inconsistent, and we saw this yesterday where on one side of the Capitol Building their riot team was beating the crap out of protesters while on the other side the officers caved as MAGA goons breached their poorly constructed perimeter.

Once inside the officers clearly had no idea what to do, and clearly had zero leadership. Obviously there is a huge gap in training, and planning for this kind of event by the Capitol Police command. If you watch the videos it is clear that the officers inside the building are the B and C-Teams. Worse, the Capitol Police were genuinely caught off guard, which means they ignored thousands of warnings about people converging on Washington to do this very thing. This means the Capitol Police command element is incompetent, and ultimately this falls back onto their employer, the US Congress.

To be fair, or to play Devil's Advocate, once inside the mob didn't destroy everything in sight. In fact there is video of them staying inside the velvet ropes of the rotunda. Windows were broken, and the chamber was breached, but let's be honest - had this been an Antifa/BLM raid the building would have burned. So when the cops are outnumbered the move is to de-escalate. The building has good security cameras (at least I hope so), and those idiots also live-streamed their actions on their personal social media accounts which will allow the FBI to roll them up. As it was, the mob left the building without the SWAT teams rolling in, and everyone is left to ponder the day's events.

My personal belief, and this is not based on any evidence, just emotion, is that the Capitol Police took a lot of heat over their actions this summer, and they responded by over-applying the new riot playbook to rub it in their command, and employer's face.

I don't recall hearing much mention of the Capitol Police during the George Floyd protests. The Park Service Police played a major (and notorious) role, but they were mainly assisted by the DC police and police forces from Virginia.

I don't see the equating of the Antifa and the BLM. The Antifa have no problem with violence, but I don't recall the BLM advocating violence.

Caved? After watching this cop actively calling and welcoming the crowd of "protestors" to head towards the Capitol building... "caved" doesn't quite seem to properly describe the situation.

Once inside the officers clearly had no idea what to do, and clearly had zero leadership. Obviously there is a huge gap in training, and planning for this kind of event by the Capitol Police command. If you watch the videos it is clear that the officers inside the building are the B and C-Teams. Honestly, the genuinely caught off guard stretches credibility to its very limit, at best - especially when it comes to the leadership. By the look of it, certainly, the US' European allies aren't at all convinced that they were caught genuinely off guard.

This means the Capitol Police command element is incompetent, and ultimately this falls back onto their employer, the US Congress.

I'd suggest that the failings demonstrated by the Capitol Police seem to be all too familiar when compared to so very many other police organizations, no matter who's employing them, so it's looking a bit more like a serious underlying systemic issue to me. Likely one more related to how the police is a bit too attractive as a profession to authoritarians, with all the associated consequences that has.

I find myself much more concerned about the dangers involved with allowing anti-government and potential hostile foreign actors mixed in (they had quite a lot of warning to be prepared to potentially take advantage of a situation like the one that happened) unfettered access to a number of unlocked computers in the building, honestly. Which is exactly what happened. The Capitol Building itself, pretty much in its entirety, and all the computer networks that can be accessed from it need to be treated as if there's been a major and serious breach.
