The goddamn sleazy check cashing place has an automatic barrier and the Goddamn Capitol doesn't have one?

Where are the police? Where is the National Guard? Aren't there military guards?

Why isn't someone on a huge speaker reading the riot act while police spray the crowd with tear gas and bean bags? Why weren't the first people through the door immediately tackled and arrested?

There was a larger show of force to get Trump across a street for a photo op.

If Trump didn't want this, he'd be down there, at the Capitol, telling them to stop. His absence says all.

The formality is, well, the formality. That is the formal point at which the new Senator becomes the new Senator. She is the Senator until an official declaration is made that she is not the Senator. It hasn't happened yet.


But, speaking of formalities, it doesn't seem she will have any opportunity to speak, anyway. I would imagine, though, that she will remain a Senator for a few days, anyway.

Depends what comes next, if we see a united front of Republicans and Democrats lining up to condemn this and make it clear that the election was free and fair and Biden won it may all blow over. If the Republicans keep trying to weasel out of that and start talking about provocation or indulging in whataboutism with regard to this act of terrorism, then it will be bad.
