Trump's Coup d'état.

Not open for further replies.
The dismissal of Gohmert's case puts the score at 1-60 for Trump and his allies.
No president has ever done better.

The courts should analyse the case very thoroughly, and, after Jan 21st, accept Gohmert's view on the VP's role in choosing the next president.
That way Kamala Harris gets to pick the next president in 2024, etc.

Sure Republicans, so respectful of the Constitution, will live with that. After all, it's what your Founding Fathers wanted all along. It just took the genius of Gohmert to finally understand it.

Those two words should never be that close together.

Who will be the next Trump? Because this overturning the election by one party will work some day, as long as it is the Republicans. Democrats can't do it, there are more red states.

This. And, of course we’ll all tune in to the Jan 6 episode of The Trump Show!

“Be there, will be wild!”

Stay tuned.

Problem I have had with this season of POTUS is they’ve dropped the realism that used to make it at least interesting and gone for the headline grabbing stuff whether it made any sense or not. There also has been no character development and all the new characters have been 2 dimensional pantomime villains. Even the cliff hanger has been strung out, how many times can you get away with a “oh there’s still a chance” before the audience tires of it?

Fingers crossed for the new season, I see some of the characters from past seasons are being brought back, have to see how that works out.

Trump Plans to Fight the Election Even After ‘Stop the Steal’ Rally Ends

Insane stuff.

The Coup doesn't have a expiration date:
Two people familiar with the matter say that in recent days, Trump has told advisers and close associates that he wants to keep fighting in court past Jan. 6 if members of Congress, as expected, end up certifying the electoral college results.

“The way he sees it is: Why should I ever let this go?… How would that benefit me?” said one of the sources, who’s spoken to Trump at length about the post-election activities to nullify his Democratic opponent’s decisive victory.

A lot of crazy referred to in that Daily Beast article. One of the worst:
Trump diehards from across the country have organized their travel to Washington on “The Donald” forum. One of the hottest topics on the site is how protesters can bring guns to D.C., which would count as a local crime in nearly all circumstances under Washington’s strict gun laws. Others have talked about breaking into federal buildings or committing violence against law enforcement officers who try to stop them from storming Congress.

“I’m thinking it will be literal war on that day,” one popular comment posted last Wednesday read. “Where we’ll storm offices and physically remove and even kill all the D.C. traitors and reclaim the country.”

A true patriot sees no difference between fighting for his country and fighting for his own material self-interest.

I get that he puts his own interests over the country, and over everything, really. I just wonder what he thinks he is getting by continuing the fight long after it's obvious he lost.

I suppose it's an adoring fan base. if he ever admits he lost, they might stop adoring him. As he goes deeper into the stupidity, carrying on these legal fights, he alienates more and more people, but I think Trump is the sort of guy would would rather have a small number of loyal fanatics than a larger number of generally approving sorts of people.

Because he can never think of himself as a loser, ever. It's one of the pathetically simplistic ways he categorises people in the world, winners & losers.
Remember way back when (May) when he was hilariously unable to state that his Covid test came back negative? Different words, same concept.

He's not going away, nor is the effort to overturn the election even after Biden takes office. I have no doubt he'll take the oath somewhere at noon on the 20th and proclaim himself to be the real president. Increasingly stupid lawsuits will continue to be filed, including ones stating that any bills signed by Biden are invalid because he isn't really President.

A Mar-A-Lago Redoubt?

11 Republican senators join Hawley and say they'll "vote on January 6 to reject the electors" from certain states.

Ted Cruz
Ron Johnson
James Lankford
Steve Daines
John Kennedy
Marsha Blackburn
Mike Braun
Cynthia Lummis
Roger Marshall
Bill Hagerty
Tommy Tuberville

All 11 are demanding a 10-day audit of election returns in states they claim are "disputed." They suggest in the joint statement that they expect their effort to fail.

Unfortunately, his adoring fans are exactly like him. Everything is always somebody else's fault.

This whole thing does make me wonder if a large proportion of the most famous or infamous head's of State from history can attribute their rise to power solely by possessing some form of the Trump gene.

Someone smells blood in the water and is vying for McConnell's job. On second thought, Cruz is probably planning another POTUS run.

Reuters: U.S. Senator Cruz joins Republican block to object to Biden's victory
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. Senator Ted Cruz on Saturday said he will be among a dozen Republican senators who will challenge President-elect Joe Biden’s victory when Electoral College results are tallied in Congress next week – a largely symbolic move that has little chance of preventing Biden from taking office.

Disgusting.

Law and order.

I wonder how the Constitutional originalists installed in the SCOTUS and the Federalists are viewing this.

Jesus ******* Christ. These people are playing the most cynical, basest kind of game- they know they don't need to state a reason for objecting, they know they don't have a rational reason, and they also know that the base they're playing to won't ask for one- that base will, at best, assume that if the objections are made, there must be a reason. And for what? The GOP could simply say "well, we did make some gains in the House, and didn't lose the Senate, so our party didn't do too badly- on to 2024 with a better candidate for President." But that's not the game- the idea is that the same base that will assume there's a legitimate reason for their objections here today will go along with whatever changes they'll want to make to the elections processes tomorrow, eliminating or severely restricting early/mail-in voting, etc., because of the "fraud" the GOP is pretending happened- "all that smoke, there must have been some fire!" The party that piously intones "the American people have a right to have confidence in the integrity of the electoral process" is doing their level best to undermine that confidence, for no other reason than their own political gain- they're afraid they can't win in a fair electoral process on their own policy/candidate merits, so the solution is to poison the process, and damn the merits.

Again I can't help but feel that even in the most liberal of democracy, where the needle is buried as far from a single "Dear Leader" concept as possible, openly denying the proper elected head of state, should have some consequences.

Like I get it we are not in Game of Thrones where Hawley should be beheaded if he doesn't "bend the knee" but... truth be told his political career should be on the line here. He's basically sided with the other side in a coup. You don't get to keep your seat in the Throne Room after that.
