Sometimes they do it as poison pills. Sometimes they do it as blackmail or extortion, if you want X, you have to give us Y. And sometimes they slip it in at the last minute because it's too late to object.

It's also how compromises get made. A member of congress might vote for a bill that they wouldn't otherwise vote for if they can get their own little pet project attached to it.

Facebook is not responsible for something posted by some random user of Facebook, and you cannot sue Facebook for it. Same with this forum. It also says that you can have moderators, and Facebook or this forum can moderate the content of what users post (including editing or deleting it) to enforce whatever rules they choose to set, and you still can't sue them for that either. And they don't have to be politically neutral.

That only makes sense here if he wanted a law enacted. He wants this one repealed.

What Is Section 230 and Why Do Trump and His Allies Want to Repeal It?

Here's Trump's issue from one of the authors of the section:
“But it also gave companies a sword so that they can take down offensive content, lies and slime — the stuff that may be protected by the First Amendment but that most people do not want to experience online. And so they are free to take down white supremacist content or flag tweets that glorify violence (as Twitter did with President Trump's recent tweet) without fear of being sued for bias or even of having their site shut down. Section 230 gives the executive branch no leeway to do either.”

So while people may see the first part of the bill as the issue:
“Republican Congressman Chris Cox and I wrote Section 230 in 1996 to give up-and-coming tech companies a sword and a shield, and to foster free speech and innovation online. Essentially, 230 says that users, not the website that hosts their content, are the ones responsible for what they post, whether on Facebook or in the comments section of a news article. That's what I call the shield.”

The U.S. Supreme Court has been totally incompetent and weak on the massive Election Fraud that took place in the 2020 Presidential Election. We have absolute PROOF, but they don’t want to see it - No “standing”, they say. If we have corrupt elections, we have no country!

Funny how he seems to think that he somehow "saved" Mitch and 8 other Republican senators from losing but somehow wasn't able to save himself from losing. He also has "absolute PROOF" that the election was stolen. Why doesn't he share it with us?

#DiaperDon's standard of "absolute proof" and an elementary standard of legal knowledge, never mind the SCOTUS standard, would appear to inhabit different universes.

He has. He and his Warriors for Justice Giuliani, Ellis, and apparently again Powell are fighting for him in the courts. Only you have to understand that we evil Dems, Rinos, State courts, Federal Courts, the Justice Dept. the FBI, State Supreme Courts and the US Supreme Court are all corrupt! The Deep State is very, very deeeeeeep.

How deep Mr. Tweeter's pockets are is not as important as the depth of the pockets of people willing to back his play.

And, of course, this isn't just about Twitter. There are many much, much smaller entities online who don't have a great deal of pocket depth of their own.

Their contributions to Internet discussion aren't necessarily insignificant. Or harmful.

Your Twitter account has a Home button. That give you the feed of tweets of people you follow. Trump does not follow any replies to his tweets, but I get a notice if someone likes a tweet I made. Or a reply to one of mine. Since those are less than one a day, some days none, I read all reply. I block some of them, they can then no longer reply to me. Well, that I see.

There is no need to follow Trump to see his tweets.

As noted previously, this very forum probably wouldn't survive without the liability shield it currently has. Twitter and Facebook/Instagram might make a go of it, but the level of moderation would have to go through the roof, probably using AI software to prescreen posts and taking posts down as soon as they're flagged by more than 0.5-1% of viewers.
