Boris said “This European question’s been going on for decades. I think this gives us the platform, the foundation for a really prosperous new relationship.”

The question has been going on for decades because a hardcore of backbench Tory MPs and right wing newspapers would not shut up about it. They manufactured endless complaints about the EU from a mixture of misrepresentation and outright lies. Any relationship with the EU will be on their terms, but hey we go back some quotas for fish we don't eat .

Anybody heard a word from Dominic Cummings? Or is he going for another eye test?

With a 4-year time limit. so just after the next election

I'm gonna guess:

That means that warrants for arrest in the EU will not be honored if the UK captures a wanted man. And visa-versa too.

How'd I do?

Do UK police capture people without arresting them? I'd think that once someone is arrested it would fall under extradition.

This seems more like police can't even arrest these people to begin with. Presumably there would be some mechanism for the EU to obtain a UK warrant to have someone in the UK arrested, and for the UK to obtain an EU warrant to have someone in the EU arrested.

I take it this is just a deal to stop the UK leaving with no deal and further negotiations will take place? How long does this deal last for?

Permanently, although IIRC there's a 4 year review built in somehow.

The UK and EU will be able to enjoy a "special relationship" as a result of the post-Brexit trade deal, Gove has said.
"We can now embark on a new, more hopeful, chapter in our history."

home Secretary says that the deal makes Britain 'more secure'

Daily mail says British business will now enter a 'Golden Age' now it is free of EU regulations and free to trade with the world.

I think they are all drunk.

If it reverts back to the way it was before the current system it means that it will have to go through diplomatic channels instead of directly to the police in the EU and UK. It'll be much slower and in some cases you can forget about it, because some EU countries won't extradite citizens of their own country, or if the reason for extradition isn't a crime in that country.

So if the UK didn't care about a particular provision and the EU did allowing that provision is a compromise, whilst vice-versa is a UK win. It sounds like the 'deal' simply kicked the issues down the road to be dealt with by endless committees ands discussion groups, si We still really don't know where we stand after January 1st.

And if you try and pin down what it was in EU regulations that specifically stopped Britain enjoying this golden age while we were a member they are oddly silent..

I remember an episode of Evan Davis' In Business programme about the pros and cons of Brexit and one pro-Brexit bizniz person was repeatedly challenged to give examples of EU regulations which impeded his business in any way at all...Still waiting for his reply.

Whereas a pro-EU bizniz person could give numerous examples of how EU regulations made it easier to trade into Europe.

Odd that.

David Davis on Radio 4 Today program says "I wouldn’t take a French mans word”

So this is Brexit. And what have you done? Another year older and a new one just begun. (Or it will 1 Jan 2021.)

You still have millions of Eastern Europeans, Germans, French, Dutch, Belgians, Spanish, Romanians, Greeks, Portuguese, all now with settled status.

Brexiteers: are you any happier?
