Major explosion in downtown Nashville

The vehicle will be traced back to an owner, or last known owner within a day. From there a chain of events can be constructed. The explosive will be identified and possibly back to a source.

Barring anyone taking credit for this the event will be traced back to someone fairly quickly.

They probably left the license plates on.

This video, from a security camera at the location, appears to capture a portion of the broadcasted message before the explosion:

This was in the downtown area so they are likely pulling all the security cameras to trace its movements leading up to it parking there on last night. Should be easy to spot an RV....maybe even video of the driver if he walked out before the recording started or got gas somewhere beforehand.

At 3:10 you'll see somebody casually walking their dog through the aftermath, literally less than two and a half minutes after the explosion. :eye-poppi

Looking at the extremely short leash, I'm guessing this is probably a K-9 officer with an explosives detection dog clearing the scene. Some of the news reports mentioned the police were using them.

If its the LP tank in the rv its one thing. If that rv was filled with a fertilizer bomb its quite another.

More information is clearly required.

In Mexico City about every six months someone ignites their leaking LP tank for the water heater. In a block or brick and post construction it usually does about the same damages as Nashville seen.
There's no question, it wasn't an accident. There was a recording or a person blasting out for everyone to get away followed by a 15 minute countdown.

Am I right in saying that incidents of this magnitude rarely go unsolved? What is the perpetrator thinking, if they don't actually take credit for it?

It seemed too soon, but, before the video ends (3:57 even though ti shows 4:17 it freezes at 3:57) there are several people moving through the frame and a police car also arrives, so I'll agree it's someone doing official work as well. Got to keep in mind there were officers on the scene beforehand, so a speedy arrival should be no surprise to anyone but me. :o

Pleasant female warning voice. Would it be a real person, or can you have a bot say whatever you want now?

From the live press conference, when the police found the van they heard a recording saying a bomb would detonate within 15 minutes. From that police began evacuating the area.
A recording with a 15 minute heads up?

Bombs can be terrifying even if nobody is killed. During the Northern Ireland Troubles and the IRA's associated bombing campaign in England, the IRA sometimes called in warnings about the bombs beforehand.

This one, for example: 1974 Oxford Street bombing
At around 20:40 the leader of the IRA unit Joe O'Connell telephoned a warning to the Daily Mirror in London, giving security & emergency services about 15 – 20 minutes to clear the area. Shortly after 21:00 the bomb exploded

Telephone Exchange bombings
The bomb exploded shortly after an unknown woman with an Irish accent telephoned a warning to a local newspaper.

Our British and Irish forumites may remember other examples. This was might have been a warning or a threat. I would would not be surprised if there is some sort of follow-through communication.

Some bombers hold grudges. I would not be shocked if we find out this has nothing do with all of our current political and social drama and was just someone who held a grudge against AT&T.

Then again, I would not be shocked to find out that this is indeed motivated by all the current political and social drama.

I had just let the dog out this morning and heard an loud sound about 6:30.

The stations are all over it. It's been reported that the police were responding to a "shots fired" call when they discovered the RV (or van) and called in the hazardous materials unit. The vehicle exploded before the unit arrived. It has been reported that it was parked in front of an AT&T-owned building containing switching equipment.
Wow!

Glad you're OK.

Or maybe someone is blackmailing someone or the government or agenices and this was some sort of a warning or a show of force.

Maybe communication with the blackmailer is already happening behind the scenes.
