Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 26

Biden just chastised Trump's incompetence on Covid and Russia and security and.. pretty much everything because Trump really screwed up everything.

The instant I read of the EO concerning fed architecture, my mind went straight to Hitler and Speer.
So much ditto.

Given it is such a vague order, and coming in the last dying days of Donny's insane reign, nothing will come of it.

Besides, who's to say that Brutalism, or Bauhaus, are not "beautiful"? Not that it matters. Donny's idea of "beautiful" is either a concrete bunker in a forest called "The Eagle's Burrow", or a soul-destroying multi-storey brick apartment block in Queens.

“It is the policy of the United States that decisions regarding the selection, education, and veneration of Tibetan Buddhist religious leaders are exclusively spiritual matters that should be made by the appropriate religious authorities within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and in the context of the will of practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism”

- An actual paragraph in an economic relief bill for a pandemic.

It's like the law gained sentience and is fillberbustering us.

Biden isn't going to waste another dime on that wall that he doesn't have to.
There's nothing wrong with strategic sections of fence and associated border security infrastructure, like roads. My info is somewhat dated but I remember border patrolmen saying roads parallel to the border would be more useful than a fence (this was before the "wall" rhetoric kicked in).

I always liked the irony of steel (?) landing mats from Vietnam being repurposed as "wall" components. From one futile brute-force domination attempt to another.

While it clearly has no place in this bill, I remember reading that the Chinese government has talked about selecting the next Dalai Lama themselves when the current one dies.

Isn't that part and parcel of religious rights that all religions have under the first amendment?

I found what I was remembering. It was in the middle of last year. China Assumes Control over Choosing Dalai Lama's Successor

The exiled Tibetan government in India will not be allowed to choose the successor of their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, Chinese authorities have stated. Instead, Chinese officials claim that the selection of a successor will need approval from the Chinese government and has to take place within Chinese territory, demonstrating the tight control of China’s Communist Party on all Buddhist religious activities in Chinese-controlled Tibet.

The Chinese government apparently has a lot of spiritual power.

Commenting on the sensitive issue, senior Chinese officials and experts claimed that the Chinese government has to approve the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama.

Okay. Look up into the sky. Count all the stars.

Now go to the Sahara. Count all the grains of sand.

Now go to the ocean. Count all the drops of water.

Add those numbers up. Now multiply them times a Googleplex. We'll call that number Y.

Y is the amount I don't care about who picks the next Dalai Lama, or if there's a Dalai Lama and an Anti-Lama, or a Henry the 8th Situation Lama.

It has no place in a bill about economic stimulus due to a pandemic.

I agree that it has no place in the bill. It's just yet another shot at China.
Indeed. That's where many Republicans see their future - a Cold War with China. After all, when was (Republican) America Greatest? During the Cold War, that's when. It's been downhill ever since that fizzled out.

Is Putin trolling Trump?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...ifetime-immunity-to-former-russian-presidents

"Vladimir Putin has signed legislation that will grant former presidents of Russia lifetime immunity once they leave office.

The bill, which was published online on Tuesday, gives former presidents and their families immunity from prosecution for crimes committed during their lifetime.

They will also be exempt from questioning by police or investigators, as well as searches or arrests."

Or goading him to do something really, really stupid?

As far as him doing something really, really stupid - and we know that ship has been sailing already - I believe he has something in mind for how it will end. And what ever it is, it has caused me some anxiety. Trump is never going to be a 'fade-away' kind of guy. More like someone who will only go out in an explosion, a burst of flames, take-no-hostages kind of guy.

I am curious what people think he will do, how far will he go? I think it will involve something that harms as many as possible.
