Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 26

I think there might be more than one answer, but the first step in considering any alternatives is to recognize that Trump is not a rational person who can weigh alternatives logically. He has a childlike view of the world that limits his understanding of how consequences work.

So. He might have jumped onto Putin’s bandwagon because

(1) He wants to be friends with with political Strongmen. He admires leaders who fix elections to ensure they will rule for life.

(2) He didn’t understand that his admiration of Putin would limit his popularity with anyone much less limit his popularity with parts of the GOP.

(3) He figured that as long as he was in charge of everyone, no one in his political party would ever see him as anything less than an infallible, charismatic, studly, insightful genius.

(4) Putin played him like a fiddle just by saying “Donald, you and I are different from the little people. We make world-changing decisions every day. Your advisors don’t understand things as well as we do, so if you ever have a problem, call me. Also, I am setting aside for you 3/4 of a square mile in the wealthiest neighborhood in Moscow. When you leave office I will give it to you and you will build the most fabulous building in all of Russia.”

I think I could come up with 5 or 6 more possibilities. The trick is to simply recognize that Trump is a doltish sociopath with a malignant personality disorder.

I vote for 4. I had a short stint where I worked for a boss who was only interested on how actions and decisions reflected on him and how much credit he could snatch from the results. I pretty soon realized that this guy wasn't too bright (although he was much better in hiding it than Donnie). The result was that with the proper framing, I could get pretty much any project I wanted through the decision-making process (or at least into consideration in a board meeting).

It wasn't a fun experience, but it was educational. It's really easy to pull the right strings when there is only one.

I think my husband works for the same guy.

I have no doubt Trump owes a lot of money to Russian bankers, but I think Putin has something else on him;something of blackmail level.

Yeah, this. Owing money isn't embarrassing to Trump. In fact he brags about it, he's the "King of Debt". He's the living embodiment of the principle that when you owe the bank a thousand dollars, it's your problem, but when you owe the bank a million dollars, it's the bank's problem. The biggest principle underlying his life is that if you're stupid enough to extend him credit, he's quite happy to exploit that as much as humanly possible, and never pay you back. Examples of this abound throughout his life.

Please tell me it still has a big gold TRUMP sign on it!

Unfortunately, no.

One of the articles I saw had the letters being hauled off in the back of a pickup truck on some prior occasion.

The hulk that’s being demolished is quite the dilapidated eyesore:

Even in these waning weeks, the Trump administration is still a well-oiled machine.

"Though President Trump has nothing on his schedule except a meeting with the defense secretary later, pool reporters were just abruptly summoned to go into an unknown event in the Cabinet room. But it was canceled just as fast as it was called."

I have this feeling Trump is going to order the military to do something really stupid and then he's going to be all shocked and surprised when nothing happens.

There's a pandemic going on as well as Russian cyber attacks, but Donnie just pouts because his feewings are huwt. Remind me, why does he want a second term? He's obviously got no interest in doing the job.

It's like a freaking Monty Python routine.

Ego pure and simple.
BTW Congratulatins to you Finns, you have a PM who is actually nice to look at...

Ah, Finland.
They got some mighty fine forest rakers over there.

I didn’t see a thread about the Business Insider investigative piece about Kushner setting up a shell corporation and funneling $600 million through it.

It is likely that some of the money was actually spent buying ad space in various media.
And it is possible that no campaign finance laws were broken.

On the other hand why go to lengths to hide something perfectly legal.

Force of habit? Family tradition?
