As I have said before, the kraken voter fraud conspiracy theory has grown so huge that it must include more than 81 million people all going against Donald Trump.

Trump allies in Wisconsin legislature are stiffing Dane, Milwaukee Co's $3 million recount costs

I'd put this in the election thread, were it still open. It's the expected news of Trump campaign/allies not paying what they're supposed to pay, though, for the nth time. ETA: While I fix the link, I suppose that I should add that it's a bit odder than usual, though. The money was paid, apparently, but it's being withheld partway through the bureaucracy because of an undisclosed objection.

And, as his Presidency comes to a close...

Trump will leave office with a historically bad economic record

"Trump's economic record ranks near or at the bottom compared with other presidents," concludes Moody's chief economist Mark Zandi, who compared the economic results of all presidents from the last 70 years. "The economy under his watch has performed very poorly."

To be sure, the deadliest public health pandemic in a century has devastated economic activity during this last year of the President's term. But responding to unexpected catastrophe -- from hurricanes to terrorist attacks to civil unrest to financial crises -- represents a big part of the job. And, as Zandi notes, Trump's bungled coronavirus response has exacerbated and extended damage to jobs and output.

Trump's pre-pandemic record

Trump's record offered little legitimate grounds for boasting before the pandemic. The persistent growth in output and decline in the unemployment rate during his first three years extended trends in the recovery from the Great Recession that he inherited from President Barack Obama.

Growth accelerated in early 2018 following Trump's sole major legislative achievement, the tax cuts he and Congressional Republicans enacted. But that didn't last long with the economy already near full employment, and the budget deficit swelled. A temporary surge in investment resulted mainly from higher energy prices.

"It provided no long-term benefit," Zandi says.

Try ever convincing Trump supporters of this who will insist that the pre-Covid economy was doing great because of Trump with him being such a great business man and all.

Republicans need to band together, behave like patriots, and put party over Trump. They face a stark choice of long-term grifting vs. short-term grifting.

So that's what happened then? The people masterminding the conspiracy started looking at all the details, pulling in all the people necessary, and concluded that it will take about 81 million people. Then someone figured out that it was just easier to have all 81 million co-conspirators just vote for Biden.

This reminds me of one of my favorite That Mitchell and Webb Look skits. The group behind planning conspiracies are discussing how to fake a moon landing. Someone points out that to fool the public, they will first need to build a massive rocket to launch before they release the fake footage of the landing. "But we'll still save lots of money, right?", asks one.

"No. It turns out that the majority of the cost to going to the moon is the cost of a massive rocket.", another replies.

"How about, after launching the rocket, we just... you know, pop over to the moon and fake the footage there?"

One of my favorite Key & Peele sketches involves one bank robber explaining his plan to his partner; laying out how they will become the "inside" men who works their way inside the bank, assuming the role as an ordinary employee to gain their trust so that the bank will just give them money every couple of weeks when he his partner realizes what he's talking about is just getting a job at the bank.

Reminds me of the joke about hiring Kubrick to fake the moon landing. Kubrick then, in his style, insisted they must shoot on location.

I know the vast majority of MAGAchuds will continue to vote republican, even if Stubby McBonespurs is not on the ballot (or even is in conflict with various republican politicians). But, the American electorate is extremely divided right now, and republicans have only won the popular vote once in the past couple of decades (and some of their electoral college victories have been VERRRY slim.) Under those circumstances, missing out on even 1% of potential republican voters can make the difference between victory and defeat.

it's the genuine undecideds who have little loyalty to either party who decide elections.
Generally agree, but I think the possiblity of a right wing third party is a definate possiblity.

If I were BIden, one of first prorities would be to tell the US government hackers to give Putin a taste of his won midicine...get inside the Russian government computers, don't actually do anything damaging, but leave a message telling the Russians we have been there....
