The Biden Presidency

Di Dongsheng, an associate dean of the School of International Studies at Renmin University in Beijing, said that China has long influenced policy in the U.S. thanks to “old friends” in top levels of government and financial institutions, but that Trump’s administration has thwarted efforts to exert recent influence.

Here is the video which was deleted from Chinese social media:

China's side

Here's who China likes.

. . . But it’s not just Trump’s warm relationship with Xi that complicates his efforts to rewrite the narrative on China. Politico reported Friday that Trump owed tens of millions of dollars to the Bank of China over a skyscraper deal at 1290 Avenue of the Americas, with the bill coming due in 2022—though later corrected the story to clarify that he no longer owed the Chinese bank. “On November 7, 2012 several financial institutions including the Bank of China participated in a commercial mortgage loan of $950 million to Vornado Realty Trust,” a Bank of China USA spokesperson said in a statement. “Within 22 days, the loan was securitized and sold into the CMBS market, as is a common practice in the industry. Bank of China has not had any ownership interest in that loan since late November 2012.”

Despite the error on the Avenue of the Americas loan, Politico noted that “Chinese state-owned companies are constructing two luxury Trump developments in United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.” In addition, the outlet added, “the president and his daughter Ivanka Trump, a White House adviser, have been awarded trademarks by China’s government [and] his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has courted Chinese investors in at least one other real estate deal.” Trump and his family’s foreign investments may come under increasing scrutiny as the 2020 race heats up, even as the president appears likely to get through a second presidential election without revealing his tax returns.

The president’s rampant conflicts of interest have fallen from the news cycle over the course of his presidency, overshadowed by the persistent scandals and corruption. In particular, the coronavirus pandemic—and his catastrophic mishandling of the crisis—has more or less superseded all other Trump controversies heading into November’s election. But his desperate attempts to shift blame for the COVID crisis from his own administration to China could renew attention on his past ties to the country. In his own recent advertisement, Biden blasts Trump for praising China’s coronavirus response, saying the president “rolled over” for the country, and failed to hold Xi’s government accountable. “He failed to act,”

Did your sources not tell you Bubba?

Nope.

I just copied the table into the spreadsheet and didn't notice the double
entries for Maine, ME-1 and ME-2, and Nebraska, NE-1, NE-2, NE-3.

P. S. Oh, they've finished the table.

That table is a few thousand less than Cook. I don't see the final numbers changing much. I think they added maybe 15K in votes the last four days.

Biden:81,281,890
Trump:74,221,585
Difference:7,060,087

So Bubba. Can you name these Chinese spies in the Trump Government?

Is it worth adding that Trump has dramatically helped to further China's foreign policy goals? Under Trump, the US lost significant influence throughout the world. China and Russia were the main countries that were in a position to act and did act to take advantage of those openings, by the look of it. Also, his actions reinforced some of their problematic domestic policy, as he smeared crap all over the public image of democracy. His ham-handed trade war did hurt them financially a little bit, while at the same time hurting us more and spurring patriotism in China that fairly certainly helped shore up Xi's power.

Oh, right... and it might be worth a reminder that China actually was pointedly attacking Biden's campaign.

But I'm sure there will be...reasons...offered by the GOP why Austin isn't entitled to the same consideration.

I hope there are Dems who argue the same thing. Unless there are MAJOR extenuating circumstance - as there were in the Mattis case - there are no reasons that Austin should be allowed to serve in a civilian role until the seven year period is complete.

One of the great ideas embodied in our county's laws is the notion that the military is under civilian control. I see no reason to wavier this foundational concept in the Austin case.

ETA: for dudalb. So it's go nothing to do with the "blind hatred of the military" that lives mostly in your own head but arises out of a vitally important USA principle that you, yourself, should also support.

How quickly would Biden call for investigating these items??

Less than two weeks after accompanying his father on an official 2013 visit to China aboard Air Force Two, Hunter inked a $1.5 billion investment deal with the Communist state-owned Bank of China on behalf of a private equity firm he had established in 2009 with Christopher Heinz, the stepson of former Secretary of State John Kerry. The transaction was accomplished through Bohai Harvest RST (BHR), a company where again, as with Burisma, Hunter served on its board. A BHR representative reported in July 2019 that Hunter had introduced his father to Chinese private equity executive Jonathan Li during the trip who later became BHR’s CEO.

Another enormously troubling Chinese incident following Joe Biden’s final term as vice president involved Hunter’s May 2017 dealings with CEFC, a now-defunct Shanghai-based energy company with broadly known Communist government and military ties which was later bankrupted following U.S. government money laundering charges. An email from Hunter’s partner James Gilliar proposes that "the big guy" confirmed to be Joe Biden --- receive 10% of the venture’s equity.Although a private citizen at the time, it was already clear that Joe was considering a presidential run.

Bubba is supporting news from "official China state media". Way to go, Bubba. USA! USA! USA!

Well spotted. I missed that. Now we know Bubba is a Chinese Communist Party spokesperson...... :D

"Chinese state media has mocked US President Donald Trump for "his gamble to play down COVID-19", hours after he and the first lady tested positive for the virus."

and

"The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, has congratulated Joe Biden on winning the US election. Chinese state media said that Xi told Biden he hoped the two countries would “uphold the spirit of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation,"

Biden quite rightly takes no risk as COVID-19 is rampant in the Trump White House:

The grim reality of the country's recent surge of cases is shaping Biden’s plans for the first days of his administration and how he plans to run his White House. The team only plans to have a skeleton staff working on campus at first, with most continuing to work remotely from home. They also plan to have the building — which has seen numerous virus outbreaks among staffers and top officials this year— meticulously sanitized.

Because the coronavirus can linger on surfaces for multiple days, a team deployed by the General Services Administration will go over every part of the White House's East and West Wings touched by human hands in the hours after Trump departs and Biden moves in, a spokesperson from the agency confirmed to POLITICO. That includes plans to "thoroughly clean and disinfect" all furniture, doorknobs, handrails and light switches, before Biden and his team move in. Additionally, a private contractor will provide "disinfectant misting services" to clear the air of lingering droplets.
