Cont: 2020 Presidential Election part 3

"anything". I can't think of a single topic, in the whole of human knowlege or experience, that I would bet Trump could muster even a partial explanation of. Perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps he's a secret expert in clockmaking, or has a masterful knowledge of choux pastry, or can tell us what the word for "ketchup" is in ninety different languages. But I doubt it.

But also nothing that he wouldn't claim to be an expert in. He reminds me of a younger brother of mine, who was once pontificating at a family picnic on how global warming is a massive DemoCommie Hoax, because, ya know, carbon monoxide (yes) in the atmosphere is totally natural, the world needs it to go on, never too much, and so forth. There's usually nothing, to me, as amusing as hearing someone expound so forcefully on a subject he so obviously knows nothing about; when it's my brother or the President of my country, it's more wince-inducing.

There is basically no chance that Biden will retain any Trump political appointees. He gets to bring his own people aboard. The "plum book" has over 9,000 slots. I was thinking of her next job in private industry, where most places won't see working for Trump as an asset. Maybe she should just tell people she's been painting houses for the last four years.

Simple. She could say that she used that time to help take care of someone with a serious debilitating illness.

It’s kind of true.

A slight rewritting of a classic Civil War song seems appropriate:

"Biden's dashing Yankee boys will never reach the coast!"
So the saucy Trumpists said and 'twas a handsome boast
Had they not forgot, alas! to reckon with the Host
While we were marching through Georgia.

So we made a thoroughfare for freedom and her train,
Sixty miles in latitude, three hundred to the main;
Treason fled before us, for resistance was in vain
While we were marching through Georgia.
(Chorus)

Hurrah! Hurrah! We bring the Jubilee1
Hurrah! Hurrah! The flag that made you free!
SO we sang the Chorus from Atlanta to the Sea
As we were Marching Through Georgia!".

They said there was no blue wave. A 306 - 232 electoral college victory and a 5.4 million popular vote advantage looks a bit like a landslide to me.
What do you think Donald?

If I were a betting man, I'd bet that Trump, if pressed, would be completely unable to explain the issues involved with that- it's another buzz-word, like "ObamaGate," and we know how that went (MSNBC article)-

I wish someone on his staff would mention Benford's Law to him- it would be priceless to see him expound on that.

Trump “and I’m told that Ben Ford’s law indicates that vote manipulation has occurred in Georgia.”

Reporter “can you explain Benford’s Law to our viewers.

Trump “Of course. Mr. Ford has always spoken highly of me. As well as all his colleagues. And I have strengthened many laws during my first term. Many police chiefs have come to me and said, ‘Sir, you have saved America.’”

Considering he was an incumbent, I'd say it's a major victory. Also, five states flipped from 2016, with no states going blue to red (correct me if I'm wrong) is no small feat.

Now we only have to cross our fingers for the Senate.

ETA: 306-232 is a difference of 74 electoral votes, not exactly a close shave. Would have of course preferred to win Florida and Texas, but you can't have everything.

Also, I suppose that if they had won more states, the Trump supporters would just complain more loudly about election fraud.

To not break the metaphor too much, it was a rather unimpressive Blue Wave, but the way it was surfed was handled magnificantly and made the wave look really impressive.

I can't call anything were we lose seats in the House and fail to take the Senate a wave and the less said about the state of SCOTUS the better, but as stated a win against an Incumbent who has staked the deck and outright cheated as much as Trump did is impressive. Taking Arizona and Georgia and even given a solid run on Texas is especially notable.

It's an impressive victory regardless.

Whenever I have a bad day, I'm going to watch the videos of the media calling 2020 for Biden, the Biden-Harris victory speech, and the celebrations in the streets following America winning the election.

ETA in response to Joe Morgue: good point about the cheating. That does make the victory even sweeter.

No reason why not.

There's 5 million and change in ballots to count - you'd need to count 500k/day.

If it takes an average of 2 minutes to verify and count 1 ballot that'd be 1 million minutes of work per day, there's 8 hours or 480 minutes in a working day.

You'd need ~2100 people counting to get it done.

Adjust up/down as appropriate depending on how long it actually takes to count 1 ballot. Throw enough people at it and you could be done in 2 days.

Thanks for doing those calculations. Sometimes I like a thought puzzle but just wasn't up to doing it right now. But my guess is it wouldn't take more than 30 seconds each to determine, verify, and log the ballot winner. As long as they're only counting the Presidential votes, and not the down-ticketers.

I was picturing the opposite end entering a different orifice.

Then I propose a new term - "Soroboruo"

(Actually, it does Google up a brewery that has a beer by that name, and a pic of a tattoo of the much more intertwined snakes -- the Auryn from The NeverEnding Story)

I think you have to factor in the 40% of the electorate who were going to vote Republican regardless of who the candidate was and then add the incumbency advantage on top of that.

ALready heard three lies in the first minute of Trump's speech, iwth the promise of many more to come.
