WHO Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

Data last updated: 2020/10/27, 3:11pm CET

Newly reported cases in the last 24 hours:

U.S. 62,364

Australia 7

Sweden 0

Denmark 1056

New Zealand 1

* U.S. a decrease by nearly 20,000. Very good.
* Australia dropped off about a third of what it was yesterday. Well done.
* Sweden, you just gotta’ love Sweden. Zero again.
* Denmark. Great Caesar's ghost! Just 4 weeks ago Denmark had 435 and now is up to 1,056 which is greatly more than doubled and this makes any earlier record-breaking seem minuscule! Personally, I think Denmark has been fiddling with their own statistics and are only now slowly putting their books in order before they get “caught out”. The Danish authorities are a pack of liars who are being held hostage by the business and transportation moguls who don’t want to lose a buck.

But I have to be truthful and not feign shock or surprise because still today nobody really knows much about the virus. It's all guess-work from one day to the next. How can otherwise it be explained that Denmark (in particular) makes such a trumpeting announcement about face mask regulations and then more than double its newly infected population within 4 short weeks? I probably haven't said this before but I think the sceptics may have been right …. that face masks don't do so much in thwarting the spread of the Coronavirus. Well, I guess it isn’t much of a suspicion any longer. It must be considered a fact by now because it appears to be doing nothing at all in Denmark. Sorry, but the best way to endure the virus (not combat it) is by following Sweden’s advice:

1). Keeping human distancing
2). Washing hands thoroughly and often with warm water - and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
3). Self-quarantine at the slightest sign of any health issue, and seek medical scrutiny if the symptom persists.

It is difficult to criticize Sweden’s recommendations because the yard-stick measurement is its neighbour Denmark and the two countries have absolute opposite opinions on both the face mask and on distancing. And look, those countries are wavering round equal results. So … what is the obvious conclusion? Seriously. With the facts in front of us, how can we miss these very clear signs? Don’t worry, I have the answer and that is that we still really don’t know very much about the virus and most of the daily reports in the rag and the so-called “experts” are faking it for the purpose of keeping us pacified. I don’t criticise them for that. Not in the least. I think it is a good thing and a worthy job they are doing, but we (all of us) must understand that there are no Coronavirus “experts”. Not yet. Researchers are playing it by ear, using their knowledge through testing and their experience with other viruses but knowing that in all likelihood the remedy will be discovered by an accidental observation outside of their technical abilities. From that moment on it will be a matter of systematically creating & reproducing the event and manipulating it for our own purposes.

Stay calm and follow Sweden’s recommendations. The alternative is to do as the Danes are doing – ‘duck & cover!’ :duck: and trust in the "elimination" ruse. It’s your choice.

It's a crime to keep telling people to follow recommendations that turned out be utterly wrong only a couple of weeks after they were issued, but even though Sweden found it very difficult to change its course, at least Scania, CC's own region, is now busy applying restrictions (other countries might even call closing down facilities and institutions a lockdown) and no longer pretending that they are something else just because it hurts the sentiments of their national epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.

Yesterday, it even occurred to some of the Swedish authorities that there's a reason other than ruthlessness and ill will when Swedes don't heed to the recommendations (which in Sweden are considered to be more than recommendations) of avoiding rush-hour public transport: It's how people get to and from work or school!

If I were a Swede, I wouldn't be worrying much about other countries doubling their number of new daily cases "in four short (!) weeks" if the numbers in my own country went from 840 to 5,191 (more than six times higher) in six weeks. But I guess that doesn't matter to somebody with a firm conviction.

For now, it is pretty obvious that Denmark doesn't follow the elimination strategy, unfortunately:
New Zealand Stamps Out the Coronavirus. For a Second Time. (NYT, Oct. 7, 2020)

Tuesday:
Coronavirus - countries (Worldometers, Oct. 27, 2020)
Deaths per million (Total deaths) New cases Serious/Critical
Sweden: 586 (5,915) 5,191* 56 *since Friday, according to SVT.se Notice that 18 deaths have been subtracted from the total number since Friday.
Denmark: 122 (709) 745 19
Finland: 64 (354) 193 10
Norway: 52 (280) 324 7
Iceland: 32 (11) 70 3
Iceland has 1,048 active cases, Faroe Islands 16, New Zealand 68.
The Faroe Islands have 31 in quarantine, 0 hospitalized.
All four tested positive on arrival at Vágar Airport and have now been isolated.
Four new covid cases (KVF.fo, Oct. 27, 2020)
I think that it is safe to say that the Faroe Islands have now eliminated the virus again.

Italian doctors are not the only ones who think it's insane to relax restrictions and opening up for visits to nursing homes when the number of cases is rising. Now Swedish doctors do, too, and they call for the restrictions in Scania to be applied all over Sweden:

– De äldre ska inte få drabbas på samma sätt som i våras.
Överläkaren kritisk: Inte läge att lätta på restriktioner (SVT.se, Oct. 27, 2020)
– The elderly shouldn't be impacted the way they were this spring.
Chief physician (and spokesperson for the Association of Doctors in Stockholm) criticizes: Not a situation where restrictions should be relaxed

It won't come as a surprise to anybody that Anders Tegnell disagrees:
– Det är en grupp som har ganska liten smittspridning och som är väl medveten om de risker som finns.
It's a group that has very little contagion and is well-aware of the risks.

CC is the obvious example of a Swedish senior citizen hell-bent on denying the risks.

ETA:

According to the latest numbers, there are now people with Covid-19 in five nursing homes in Uppsala. It is a total of 25 confirmed cases, says UTN.
In the past 14 days, six persons in nursing homes in Uppsala have died.

Speaking of "... more than double its newly infected population within 4 short weeks":

17 of 21 regions report of increased spread of the infection, and many of them also warn that hospitals and primary care are already overwhelmed.
The very worst situation is in Scania where the regional council writes that the 7-day average of the number of cases per day "has increased dramatically the most recent week," from an average of 55 cases per day to 187 cases per day in two weeks.
Alarm for the government: Increased spread in 17 of 21 regions

As I've said before: It would be funny if it weren't for the disaster that it actually is.

Scania, Uppsala - and Stockholm:

Antalet covidfall ökade kraftigt förra veckan jämfört med veckan innan dess. Detta enligt siffror från Region Stockholm.
Även antalet som vårdas på sjukhus stiger, säger chefläkare Elda Sparrelid.
– Det är ett allvarligt läge, vi vet inte vart detta tar vägen.
Kraftig ökning av antalet covidfall i Stockholm (DagensNyheter.se, Oct. 28, 2020)
The number of Covid-19 cases increased massively last week in comparison to the week before, according to numbers from Region Stockholm.
Even the number of hospitalizations is increasing, says chief physician Elda Sparrelid.
– The situations is serious, we don’t know where this is going.
Massive increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Stockholm

I disagree. It's very obvious where this is going.

Her er Sundhedsstyrelsens dokumentation for, at mundbind virker (TV2.dk, Oct. 27, 2020)
Here is the Danish Health Agency's documentation that face masks work

Need I add that when Tegnell was asked about documentation for his claim that face masks don't work, he couldn't come up with anything substantial?

And it's not as if Swedish experts aren't trying to help him do his job:

Pressrelease 2020-08-10: Extensive documentation on the effect of mouth protection sent to the Public Health Agency. (VetCov19.se, Aug. 10, 2020)

What the Swedish Public Health Agency does instead:
On August 31, 2020, the Swedish Public Health Agency published a list of 37 studies on the effects of face masks. It is a credible list, and only the order of the presented studies is a little misleading. The list begins with four articles that provide relatively weak support for the benefits of face masks against the spread of Covid-19, and is then followed by more than thirty articles that provide relatively strong support for the positive effects of face masks.

They just keep coming:
Den svenska coronasituationen fortsätter att förvärras. Förra veckan testade rekordmånga svenskar positivt för covid-19. Över 8 000 nya fall upptäcktes, vilket var 70 procent fler än veckan innan.
Epidemiolog: Svenska råden svåra att förstå (SvenskaDagbladet.se, Oct. 28, 2020)
The Swedish corona situation continues to get worse. Last week a record number of Swedes tested positive for Covid-19. More than 8,000 cases were discovered, 70 percent more than the previous week.
Epidemiologist: The Swedish recommendations are difficult to understand

Newly reported cases in the last 24 hours:

U.S. 63,145

Australia 14

Sweden 0

Denmark 745

New Zealand 2

* U.S. an increase of 1,000
* Australia has doubled
* Sweden, zero again.
* New Zealand has increased by one.
* Denmark has dropped back to yesterday’s tally. Maybe they have finally quit being pig-headed and started to take Sweden’s advice? No, I don’t think so. I don’t recall Denmark being at zero yet while Sweden has been at a steady zero for weeks. Even New Zealand hasn’t been that consistent. As it stands Sweden is the only one that has “eliminated” the virus. But don’t get overly optimistic, you can be sure Sweden will be getting its fair share of misery sooner or later. In fact, with nine deaths yesterday, trouble could be coming sooner.

Note that all of the cases in NZ over the past three weeks have been found in people arriving from offshore and already in quarantine.

Clutch is having fun.
Sweden had record new cases yesterday about 2000 so their plan is working beautifully. Nanas won’t be anywhere near the kids for Christmas.

This is hilarious. Is Clutch Cargo really posting the figures of 0 before anything has been announced and then claiming it represents no new cases?

Wow! I think he's clutching at cargo cult thinking.

Wow! I think he's clutching at cargo cult thinking.

That's what he is doing. And he is also claiming that it is unskeptical to reject his figures. A laugh a minute.

If your reading comprehension is up to snuff then you might want to read all of my daily reports ..... paying attention to the heading of each one and particularly the coloured highlight near the top. Is that too difficult, do you think?

.... then claiming it represents no new cases?
That's up to you.

That is all he's doing. Lies and lying seem to be an obsession of his.
Wednesday's actual number of new registered cases in Sweden was 2,128.
It is obvious that he is disappointed that Denmark's number of new cases went down on Tuesday, but unfortunately it was due to a technical error of counting and registration. We were told about this as early as Monday afternoon, but I didn't mention it here because I was waiting to see CC's reaction.

Wednesday:
Coronavirus - countries (Worldometers, Oct. 28, 2020)
Deaths per million (Total deaths) New cases Serious/Critical
Sweden: 586 (5,927) 2,128* 55 *according to SVT.se

Finland: 64 (354) 215 10
Norway: 52 (280) 403 8
Iceland: 35 (12) 97 1
Iceland has 1,061 active cases, Faroe Islands 16, New Zealand 66.
The Faroe Islands have 47s in quarantine, 0 hospitalized.

I do believe the official word is that all the cases over the last several weeks are claimed to be quarantined arrivals from abroad.

Actually, we're all wrong - it's officially one week today.

Sorry mate, I wasn't up with the play on this thread and completely missed the "Sweden = 0 cases".

:dl:

Right now, USA is reporting zero cases!!11!!
