Watching the debate tonight?

I wonder how much Biden's stance on oil will affect him and Democrats in general in Texas or Pennsylvania. Oklahoma - my home state - is hopeless for him of course, but the lone Dem congressperson, Kendra Horn, who is in a toss up election, has already distanced herself from his remarks. I will be interested to see if OK breaks its streak of having every county in the state go for the GOP candidate, which dates to the 2004 election.

Texas, while very close, probably wasn't going to Biden anyway. However, Democrats have a real chance to gain the majority in the state legislature, which would obviously be very important in a redistricting election.

Trump brings up fracking and Pennsylvania all the time. The state is somewhat divided on it from what I've read.

I wish Biden would take a different approach. Instead of "we are going to work to end ..." it should be, "We know we can't rely on these forever, and so we need to work to find alternate approaches...."

He kind of does that, but it needs to be moreso. I like his "we are going to find alternatives that create millions of jobs..."

@HeyTammyBruce All night, @realDonaldTrump has been sharp, clear, in charge of the issues. This is a man who ran to be POTUS because he cares about our future & delivered. The swamp cares only about itself. Make no mistake, on 11/3 Trump wins his 2nd term & the reformation continues Fisted handFlag of United States

@realDonaldTrump loves his job & showed it tonight. He was hopeful & optimistic;
@joebiden negative & backward-looking.
Made Biden explain - and eat! - his record.
"You had 8 years and didn't do it"

Absolutely OUTSTANDING job by the President tonight. He was measured, precise and convincing.
Biden was typical politician.

Color me unimpressed that all the dogs vying to be first in line to hump Trump's leg are vying to be first in line to hump Trump's leg.

Trump needed to make ground, and the only way he could have done that is by Biden making big mistakes.

That didn't happen.

I doubt Trump will be at all pleased with the outcome, and might want to fire some advisers who told him to play by the rules.

I disagree. He received lousy reviews last time and he knows it as much as he blusters that he did great. This time he generally did better and he knows that.

What’s the purpose of a debate? To change somebody’s vote at this stage of the game? First presidential election I voted in was 1968, voted for Nixon and regretted it a few months later. Never voted for a Republican for prez since. Never voted for any Democrat at any level either.

Presidential debates are as much horseapples as the state of the union address. I don’t waste my time with clowns.

Enjoy though, you guys that get off on it.

That's quite the string of non-sequiturs.

Joe Biden just lost Texas, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Ohio, Alaska trying to follow AOC + 3’s plan on energy. #TRUMP2020Landside #Debates2020

I guarantee it was the 1st time millions of Americans learned the “kids in cages” was Obama not Trump because the media has been lying to the American people. #Debates2020

Trump won this debate, handily. Biden wasn’t a force at all. Trump was substantive, on-point, well-tempered. Definitely helped himself, when it mattered most.

But I doubt if it satisfies him as much. With him, restraint is often followed by a long stream of rabid rantings. Like he has to get it out of his system.

Too bad its not feasible for Welker to ask why he dumped on her, and other strong women. At least the audience will see it occur live, in all likelihood.
That little bit of condescension he foisted won't impress anyone with an awareness level above a geranium.

Venn diagram. Undecided voters. Geraniums.

Trump looked tired to me at the end. He may just have been bored, of course, but he has been pushing himself recently. He may be fated to take the "or die trying" option.

Nothing really satisfies him except fawning, sycophantic praise and the belief that he WON bigly. But he won't be firing anyone over last night.

So are the cages the only thing from the Obama administration that Trump chose to leave alone?

Why I didn't bother watching the debate for more than a minute or two. As explained By David Leonhardt of the New York Times:

Mrs. newyorkguy and myself will be early voting this Saturday. For Joe Biden.

Halfway through the debate I quit watching for that very reason. There was no point.

Then when it was over I turned on the pundits and was disgusted. They thought it was a great debate, both candidates got some blows in, the moderator did a superb job....

Unless the second half was, for some reasons markedly different from the first half, none of that was true except Biden landing a few blows about being a better person.

Note that Stahl has spoken openly about a meeting she had with trump, in which he explained why he came up with and continued to use the 'Fake news media'-slur.

I'd be surprised if that was part of trump's hatred of her, but you never know...
Sometimes he admits he knows full well he's lying. Maybe it's a bit more often than the lies he believes than I thought.
