It's very hard to predict what Trump will do. There is a significant possibility that Putin might "reward" him with a poison cocktail if he isn't re-elected.

CNN has an opinion piece positing that if Trump loses, his self-preservation instinct will overpower his ego and he'll cut and run, just like he did with all of his failed businesses.

I agree with this, it's his lifelong pattern.

The one variable this time, however, he's more exposed to the public view. It will be interesting to see what happens.

There are enough swing states that are polling within the margin of error, nearly neck and neck. I can see Trump at this point deluding himself he'll pull it off like he did with Clinton. The thing is Trump has to win all those tied states. Biden only has to win the ones that lean his way bigly.

Biden has said he's going to nominate a real independent head of the D o J and leave it up to them.

This is what makes Trump and everything about him fundamentally different then even other bad Presidents.

Everything getting worse is the point with Trump. There is "Oh things have gotten so bad" with him.

I hope things will get better. I honestly think odds are that the will.

But I am still accurately acutely aware that a lot of Trump's base is the political equivalent of that scene we see in fantasy movies where the stabbed enemy just keeps moving up the blade to kill his opponent before he dies.

Of course Obama couldn't endorse Biden until after the primaries, otherwise it would have been unacceptable interference in the primary process.

Now in the past this would typically be a GOP stronghold yet there was 8 Biden signs and 2 Trump signs. About a quarter of a mile away was a very run down dirty mobile home park full of single wides and 20 year old cars. There were 4 Trump signs

Just watched the Obama speech, great stuff.

If I had to choose the one bit that I hope gets quoted and communicated the most, it would be his list of Trump appointees who are currently in charge of the most important parts of government and are actively working to undermine the very purposes of their offices.

That was going on with GWBush. Rachel Maddow pointed this out at the time (when she was on Air America) - the republicans constantly claim that the government does a terrible job and to prove it, they put people into positions who actively work to make it ineffective

If Biden is inclined to see that as part of a way to "heal" the country, then I hope he lets all the trials/settlements go to completion, then - AND ONLY THEN - commute his sentence. No pardon, just no jail time, in return for which:

• He's wiped out financially
• He can no longer have or work at a non-profit
• He can no longer be involved in politics, including canceling his twitter account

OK, that last one is probably not constitutional but I can dream.

FFIW, given Trump's long-term flouting of Twitter rules, his account can be reasonably cancelled at any time.

It really isn't a question of "healing" the country. First there has to be thorough investigations. Then charges have to be brought. Probably takes 2 years. Trump will be what, 77? And then even you have to get an unbiased jury. It's gonna be hard to secure a conviction even if the evidence is overwhelming. Then even if they get the conviction, Trump will appeal. Whats it gonna look like imprisoning an 80 year old former President?
