Watching the debate tonight?

Trump's problem with the debate is that his elite team of advisers (aka Fox & Friends) gives contradictory advice:

Yesterday: Steve Doocy basically tells Trump that he should spend the last two weeks of the election talking less about Hunter Biden and more about the economy.

Today: Brian Kilmeade advises Trump to "focus on" the NY Post's Hunter Biden stories.

Also today: when his advisers agree, Trump is having none of it: Fox & Friends suggests to Trump that he should change his debate strategies, but Hillary Clinton is terrible and he thinks many people are saying he won the first debate, so it doesn't look like he's changing anything.

In light of announcement that there will be a mute button, and that Trump has caved on that issue, I'll just re-post these....

Trump walked away from the virtual debate, and it cost him. Lower ratings, Trump looking like an argumentative idiot, and Biden allowed to actually get his message across uninterrupted. That's a disaster for Trump, so here he comes with his tail between his legs.

But it's not "The Left" setting these rules. It's the committee in charge of the debates. They have the power to set the rules, and they should set rules that allow them to hold a useful debate, otherwise there's no point in even having a debate.

If one candidate is such a whiny brat that he doesn't want to play by those rules, then the proper response is, "Thank you for your interest, don't let the door hit you on the way out", and then you let their opponent have the floor for 90 minutes of uninterrupted prime-time TV access to the voters.

How many times do you think Trump, or any politician, for that matter, would let that happen before they came back with their tail between their legs?

No they don't.

No, seriously - no they don't.

Let's take a page from Trump's playbook. If the committee just does this, unilaterally, and doesn't announce it until the cameras are rolling - who can stop them?

Make Trump make that choice - have a debate where he can't just rant and rave, or stomp off in a huff like a whiny brat. What's wrong with that scenario?

If what we saw this week is what we're going to see next week, there's literally no purpose to these debates. So why not go nuclear on Trump?

looks like the mute button will be in heavy use.
I think it is Trump's strategy to be the victim of the Evil Biden-MSM conspiracy.

It will be put to fair use (but of course, not according to Trump). It will only be used during the opening two minutes of each segment when each participant is supposed to have that time to talk without interruption.

It won't be used during the longer open discussion portion which follows, which is going to be where the fireworks happen.

True, but I think that Joe Biden will be disciplined enough to me able to get his key message across in 2 minutes whereas 2 minutes is far too long for President Trump to talk coherently without drifting off subject.

As long as Joe gets his 2 minutes then IMO he can counterpunch against President Trump's interruptions.

Biden will win the debate.

Trump will win ruining the debate.

Very possibly true. But the Mute Button will force him to up his game, making him look even more unhinged.

And looking at the numbers in the swing states the last few weeks, it looks like we've finally, actually, for real reached the point where Trump's Tantrums are finally costing him some support among his voters. So the more unhinged he is, the better.

He'll ruing the debate, and his chances of winning the election all at the same time.

Whenever Trump figures out that he's muted, he'll walk over to Biden's side of the stage and either grab Biden's microphone (if it's on a podium) or just try to get as close to Biden as he can and start shouting for Biden's microphone to pick him up (if it's a clip-on).

The two-minute mute could still be useful to Trump.

He can sling mud every time.

If the moderator jumps in to fact check the mud, he has his "the fake news plant they call a moderator is my opponent too" card.

If the contrast between Biden actually trying to answer questions and Trump just spewing BS doesn't sway at least a few voters away from Trump, we might as well just burn down the US now, and save ourselves the trouble of waiting until after the election.

Biden can't amke Trump answer a question, but he can make it clear that Trump is dodging a questoin.
I am betting that Trump will not be able to keep himself from trying to upstage Biden.

Maybe he'll try to arrest him.

I'd love to see VP Biden at one point, when he has a chance to interject, be looking down, shake his head slightly, and say "Oh Donald... bless your heart...!"

I want Biden to say... You would do the country a great service if you would resign, right now. I don't see eye to eye with Mike Pence. But at least he's not unhinged*. At least he doesn't disparage the people who selflessly serve our nation. At least he doesn't encourage fringe lunatics to kidnap the governor of Michigan. Mr. President, please, resign right now.

* doesn't represent my view

It won't happen, hell it can't happen with our political landscape being what it is right now, but yeah I'd love for Trump to get his "You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?" moment.

That's what I want to ask Trump and every politician, television talking head, voter, and online troll that supports/defends/apologizes for him. "After all this time isn't the joke of Trump hurting the country no longer funny?"
