Watching the debate tonight?

I agree, and one such gaffe would be to do anything with respect to the claims relating to the laptop/hard drive than simply laugh them off.
That a thousand time.

A more eloquent person than Biden maybe could make some joke about the "cancel Christmas" idiocy and the "Christmas at the Bidens" picture the NYP published.

But as you say, Biden should really just laugh it off. The "base" will see it as further proof he is a paedophile eating puppy-pizzas for breakfast, but Biden doesn't care about them.

It was "undecided voter" Mayra Joli.

"Mayra Joli, an immigration attorney and pro-Trump activist who once declared herself Miami’s “master of selfies” during her 2018 campaign, was seated behind the president during his hour-long town hall. After the event, she greeted the president, according to a video posted to her Facebook page."

"A spokesperson for NBC did not respond to a request for comment on whether or not the network determined who could attend the event. The town hall event was billed as a conversation with undecided voters, though many of the questioners introduced by moderator Savannah Guthrie were already leaning toward voting for Trump or Democratic nominee Joe Biden. Joli did not ask a question during the event."

Undecided...this is her FB cover photo:

The certificate is dated 2/1/19.

Is there evidence it was supposed to be a foreign policy debate?

Yes.

The moderator added other topics because Trump refused to participate in the second scheduled debate.

ETA: as explained in a later post, the "yes" above is actually not correct.

Here are the topics for the upcoming debate:

The moderator, Kristen Welker, is a White House correspondent for NBC News and co-anchor of "Weekend TODAY." The format will be identical to the first presidential debate, with the time divided into segments focusing on different issues chosen the moderator.

The topics for the October 22 debate will include:

Fighting COVID-19
American Families
Race in America
Climate Change
National Security
Leadership

The weak man's version of a tough guy is whining again.

WASHINGTON – The next (and final debate) isn't until Thursday, but President Donald Trump is already trying to pressure and intimidate the moderator, NBC News White House correspondent Kristen Welker.

"She’s always been terrible & unfair, just like most of the Fake News reporters, but I’ll still play the game," Trump tweeted Saturday. "The people know!"

Thursday's debate is crucial for Trump, who refused to participate in an Oct. 15 showdown with Biden because organizers wanted a virtual debate in light of the president's COVID-19 diagnosis.

When will he start calling her nasty?

Could you clarify where it was stated that this was the foreign policy debate?

No, I can't. I was relying on my memory, that the third debate would focus on foreign policy. But can't find any confirmation.

Apologies for that.

No need to apologise. I'm in the same boat. I can't find where it was said, but it is something reasonable that cod have been said, but the fact the trump campaign claims it raises doubts.

Stepian is as big a whiner as Trump. I expected him to threaten to take his ball and go home at any time as I read the letter.

Debate committee decides that mics will be muted during portions of the debate. For the first two minutes of each participant's presentation.

I predict that The PDJT will argue that it goes against his freedom of speech and refuse to attend.

There is still some contention about the content of the questions to be asked, and whether a Covid-19 test will be required the day of the debate.

I still hope the debate occurs because I can't see it being anything but a disaster for Trump.

If you have spare time, please read the letter Bill Stepien, Trump's campaign manager, sent to CPD about the last debate coming Thursday. Not clear if it's just posturing, or that Stepien hopes to avoid the debate altogether, given how bad the first went for Trump.

That is a lousy letter. Actually, it's worse than that. He's writing to get the Commission to act upon his request while bad mouthing the Commission in that very same letter. Any half way normal high schooler would know better than that. Geeesh.

If I was a recipient of that letter, I'd wipe with it and send it back.

For now, in this totally not unhinged statement, the campaign says he'll participate:
“President Trump is committed to debating Joe Biden regardless of last minute rule changes from the biased commission in their latest attempt to provide advantage to their favored candidate. This was supposed to be the foreign policy debate, so the President still looks forward to forcing Biden to answer the number one relevant question of whether he’s been compromised by the Communist Party of China. Why did Biden allow his son Hunter to sell access to him while he was vice president, and why were there Chinese payment arrangements for Joe himself worked out by Hunter and his sketchy partners? If the media won’t ask Joe Biden these questions, the President will, and there will be no escape for Biden.”

Indeed, though I think the mic muting rule actually helps Trump.

That's basically what they did.

Some topics the discussion of which Trump is calling "unfair": Fighting covid-19, American Families, Race in America, Climate Change, National Security, Leadership.

That makes it sound like Trump's plan for the debate is to ignore the questions he is asked and instead use his time to repeat conspiracy theories about Biden. That should go over well.

looks like the mute button will be in heavy use.

I think it is Trump's strategy to be the victim of the Evil Biden-MSM conspiracy.

Yeah that's statement is pretty much an open declaration that Trump intends to maintain his same "Ignore the rules and make loud noises" tactic.
