Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 26

I found it interesting that this thread does not have the "(Continuation)" blurb in front of it. Maybe because it might be the last one? :)

(apropos of nothing, really...)

Now it does have it. And we're already on Page 3. (by my settings) Not really necessary at this point, and many of the earlier threads don't have it. Just an observation. But I haven't posted a nitpicky note for a while. :p

Let's take a look at how this started. Pedantry had nothing to do with it.

1) Tero asked why the FBI will not comment on if there is no computer and why they cannot comment on an investigation.

2) You replied that the FBI will not say anything as as a matter of principle.
3) I replied that it is a matter of FBI policy to neither confirm nor deny an investigation.

4) When I pointed out that it wasn't the FBI that said they were investigating it, but the media, the guy from the shop, the pundits, etc. you said that's not what you read and presented an article that read the "FBI is 'reportedly' investigating" thus proving my point.

5). When I pointed that out, instead of accepting that you replied "Well obviously it is 'reportedly'. That is standard news lingo." You completely ignored the entire point that the FBI has not confirmed that they are investigating the matter because their policy, not principle, is to neither confirm nor deny an investigation which was the entire point of our exchange. And then you accused me of pedantry. So, yeah...I am a bit disappointed that you get so defensive about something so trivial.
ETA: It wasn't disdain as much as disappointment.
Give it up Stacy.

You meant one thing, I took it differently. Just say so.

Not my Wall, which will soon be finished (and Mexico will pay for the Wall!). Totally unrelated, but I think Steve will be just fine. By the way, is this the same job hopping Tim O’Brien that headed Mini Mike Bloomberg’s humiliating 2 Billion Dollar Presidential run? Debate prep!

Unless it's Anthony Weiner's laptop, just four years ago.

That was part of the Clinton email investigation that had already been acknowledged by the FBI and had been previously closed. They decided they had to break their own policy:

In late October, senior FBI officials — newly fearful of leaks about their discovery that might damage the bureau’s reputation — decided they had to disclose. It’s worth remembering that at this point the FBI was already investigating the Trump campaign’s potential collusion with Russia. Comey and his team chose to reveal the reopening of the Clinton investigation but to say nothing about the Trump probe.

Give it up Stacy.

You meant one thing, I took it differently. Just say so.

I have done more that said that. I've quite clearly shown that you were incorrect in the policy vs principle disagreement. So why don't you just be gracious and say so?

"Twitter has removed a post from Donald Trump’s latest appointee to the White House coronavirus task force claiming that masks do not work to slow the spread of the disease that has infected millions of Americans.

Dr Atlas, a radiologist who reportedly turned down efforts for widespread testing and has clashed with task force members over his controversial approach to the public health crisis, wrote: “Masks work? NO!”

He followed his message with several misleading and false statements about the efficacy of face coverings to combat transmissions and linked to an article in the American Institute for Economic Research that argues against wearing them."

In a statement, Mr Atlas claimed that “Twitter seems to be censoring the science if it goes against their own goals of public indoctrination.”

He has suggested that so-called “herd immunity” in the US was possible with the “likelihood that only 25 or 20 percent of people need the infection.”

Where does he find these people?

What you are saying is you couldn't have possibly been misunderstood.

And yet you were.

I am wrong for misunderstanding you. I'm not sure what other kind of wrong you think I was.

You are welcome to believe I didn't know the FBI doesn't officially comment on cases even though I knew that. I believe that was clear when I described Comey's asinine move. I'm not sure why you think I didn't.

I was discussing the fact we have a version of 'knowing' they are investigating. You meant "officially announcing".

Why wouldn't I admit that had I not known? Huh?

We never discussed the FBI 'commenting' on cases or Comey so that is a strawman. The only thing we discussed was the FBI policy of neither denying nor confirming an investigation. You tried to negate that it was policy by downplaying the 'reportedly' part in the article you had provided as evidence:

Well obviously it is 'reportedly'. That is standard news lingo. These are reputable news agencies citing sources that should have access to the information and should be reliable.

I think you didn't know it is FBI policy not to confirm or deny an investigation. What I think you did misunderstand is that I thought you didn't know that the FBI doesn't comment on cases they're investigating. Which is never what I thought or said. Do we have that cleared up now?

... I think you didn't know it is FBI policy not to confirm or deny an investigation. ...

Why would I not know that?

Are you kidding? With the whole Comey travesty anyone paying attention knew that. Comey said it many times when he discussed his decision to release the fact the Weiner laptop was being investigated both before and after the 2016 election.

The op ed writers, news pundits and news anchors addressed that ad nauseum discussing the Comey fiasco.

If you hadn't been convinced you had some knowledge you needed to impart, that lI lacked—the FBI policy—you might have realized we were talking past each other.
