McConnell: "Senate Republicans can't walk and chew gum at the same time."
It shows Dr Fauci saying he "can't imagine that anybody could be doing more" to fight Covid-19, suggesting he is speaking about President Trump.
However, Dr Fauci was talking about himself and other medical officials.
The infectious diseases expert has previously clashed with Mr Trump over how to handle the pandemic.
"In my nearly five decades of public service, I have never publicly endorsed any political candidate," he said, in a statement sent to AFP news agency.
"The comments attributed to me without my permission in the GOP campaign ad were taken out of context from a broad statement I made months ago about the efforts of federal public health officials," Dr Fauci added.
Nate Silver has responded with: "[citation needed]"
Then he has found a quote that is vaguely similar but actually expresses the opposite opinion

...the same method that Trump's people used when editing "The Apprentice" to create the illusion that Trump ever had any idea what he was doing in anything. It's amazing that there are people this stuff can actually work on.you can clearly see and hear that the Fauci part wasn't a single shot
Poll latest:
FiveThirtyEight have dropped the odds slightly for Trump from 14% to 13%.
The Economist has raised them slightly for him from 8% to 9%.
Trump's odds have been fluctuating 1% in either direction for a while because 538 keeps dropping and re-adding the chance of an Electoral Tie while Biden's number has stayed (or increased) more steadily.
That's true for sufficiently small values of "a while". He was at 20% entering the debate.
To some degree, that is a methodological artefact (when making the prediction they take recent polling and adjust the results with stuff like economic and incumbency factors, but the adjustment gets smaller as we approach election date), but his numbers have taken a real hit during October.
