In a thread about such an evil occurrence, this is the first time the word evil has actually popped into my mind. Take that as a compliment, I guess.

I'm not sure what's evil about it. Livestock is livestock. Not all cultures keep the same sort of livestock. But they all manage to separate their personal feelings about them when it's time.

You don't think that all those critters the FFA kids raised from birth and tried to win prizes for got to live to a ripe old age, do you?

Yeah, it might be a bit sad. But I think "evil" is something of an overstatement.

I was shooting for overstatement due to the live stock being man's best friend. I even included an emoji!

Besides, Dog is not used for that in the movie. At least, it is not shown to be used for that.

You're imposing the expectations of your culture on another. Not to mention it's a post-apocalyptic wasteland culture.

Even in less disaster-ridden times dogs are not afforded the same devotion in all cultures that they are within the Western psyche. And even in Western cultures that devotion falls to the wayside when people get hungry enough.

Besides, Dog is not used for that in the movie. At least, it is not shown to be used for that.

Exactly. They didn't show them using the toilet, either.

I don't get it. Why would that be evil? Is it the subtextual reference to the dog rather then the surface level reference to meat on the hoof?

ETA: never mind, I'm caught up now.

It's the Daily Mail so take with a hefty pinch of salt.

Then again, defence lawyers will claim all kinds of things to get their clients off - the key is whether or not it's true.

I'm not sure it matters a great deal. Not to me, at least.

I wouldn't feel all that much different about the case if it had been a white guy who was herded up the street, cornered, and murdered.

The blatant racism of their motivation is a separate issue to me. Yes, a vital one, but murder is still murder.

And that stops it being a murder?

And besides which, that is merely a claim by the defense attorney.

The defense attorney also claims that....

"The McMichaels claimed that they began pursuing Arbery in their truck because they thought he was a burglar after a spate of thefts in their area, and that he attacked them when they tried to make a citizen's arrest. [Travis is] being attacked and overwhelmed by Ahmaud Arbery's strength. And he has to either fire that gun or lose his life at that point"
The problem with this fairy story is that the incident is on video; we've all seen it, and we know that is not what happened. That the defense attorney is even attempting to spin the incident this way shows how desperate he is, and how little credibility can be given to this other claim about Roddy Bryan lying about the N-word.

Certainly their Facebook posts that contain frequent use of the N-word and other racist slurs, show that such an act would be completely in character for them - that makes Roddy Bryan's statement more likely true than not.

Looked like what happened to me.

Yeah, and it's damned rude when all those good old boys did was get their guns and chase after him in their truck. When good white folks want to lynch a ****** he should just stand there and take what's coming to him, 'cause he's bound to have done something to deserve it, right?
