Boy this debate is boring. I don't think I need to know what Pence thinks. He is a nobody.

And I watched the whole Trump Biden thing. The VP seems irrelevant.

CNN

In an unprecedented move, the editors of the New England Journal of Medicine has condemned the Trump administration for its response to the Covid-19 pandemic — and calling for the current US leadership to be voted out of office

WOW! And I thought it was amzing when Scientific American for the first time made a Presidential endorsement. They too endorsed Biden because of Trump's response to COVID.

Veep debates don't matter unless one of them blows it r eally, really, bigtime.

FiveThirtyEight: 15/84. I don't know how accurate the map representation on top of the page is, but either way it shows only three example outcomes with a Trump victory now.

Further down the page there are 100 blobs, each representing an outcome. Put your cursor over one and it shows the corresponding electoral map. As I type 16 have President Trump winning, 84 have Joe Biden winning.

The most extreme one favouring President Trump has him winning 350/188 with only Washington, California, Illinois, Virginia, Delaware and half of New England breaking for Biden.

The extremes at the other end give Biden a 400-point advantage in EC votes. There are also more simmed results with Biden getting over 400 EC votes than there are of Trump winning the election.

And yes, of course Trump could respond to this by just flipping the table and declaring victory. But barring some major disaster for Biden, this looks bigly promising.

It's a strange situation for sure. The 70+ and obese president sick with a respiratory disease along with much of his inner circle, the incumbent's campaign apparently running out of money, cutting TV ads strongly and badly... it'll be interesting to see how the Trump administration stumbles through the next weeks. Or for that matter, how many of them will perish.

It's also almost uncanny how Trump's fanatic support might be wavering a little, judging by the number of Republicans who don't approve of his recent Covid handling. I don't think they're about to drop him, but I've mostly seen near-fanatical support for him, no matter what he did and said. Come to think of it, the way all the Trump supporters on this forum no longer seem to identify as such, instead going "no, I totally do not support or care about Trump, I don't even like him, I just like to spend all my time here defending him" is new, too, I think. Usually they have just disappeared for a while when things got ugly, like after the midterms.

84% is about the same odds as surviving a round of Russian Roulette.

I said something similar in 2016 and we all got our collective metaphorical head blown off.

Yes there are but:

  • Those forecasts only reflect current polling - a significant change in the polls in President Trump's favour, especially in swing states, will have a significant change in those forecast outcomes. This willingness to amend is a real strength of 538.com
  • AFAIK these forecasts are based on a "fair" election. They don't try to take account of the GOP's likely attempts to have millions of votes discounted, millions of votes "lost" by USPS, having the results challenged in courts and so on
  • Then again, as the election gets closer the "now" forecast (which is currently even more in Biden's favour) will be closer to the "election" forecast

Mike Pence is doing awesome! Help our campaign close the fundraising gap created by liberals so I can continue to support the Trump/Pence Administration.

Shouldn't that tweet have been "so I can continue to support South Carolinians."

This is also why Trump keeps talking about, for instance, the wildfires in California and the "city wide riot that's totally happening" in Portland in tones as if he's not the President.

California and Oregon didn't vote for him, so as far as he's concerned he's not their President.

Loyalty is everything to Trump, same as any Mob Boss.

"I am making a play for the whole state" -- Trump on New York, where he is currently trailing Biden by more than 30 points

Well yeah but that's just because most of America isn't aware that Puerto Rico is part of America.

...and because in many ways it isn't from a political perspective.

No senators, no EC votes, what's the point in paying them any attention ?

Nothing but basic human decency.

So yeah nothing that would bother Trump.

Trump asked why the polls show him trailing: “I don’t know, I don’t understand it, I don’t believe them. I don’t believe the polls. Because we’ve never had this much support. They have a boat thing, they have 5,000 boats. They have thousands of trucks all over the country.”
