Trump and Melania test positive test positive for Covid 19

He was very publicly hospitalized. For multiple days. Hard to sell that as mild.

Yeah.....but, that's more true if we're talking in terms of a normal patient.

Simply by virtue of his position, POTUS is going to be admitted to the hospital much sooner for the same level of symptoms, be treated more aggressively at the same stage of illness, and will have a much larger medical team attending him than some pleb with the same complaint. It can all easily create the illusion that the problem is more serious than it might actually be.

And lacks the financial concerns that hospitalisation brings for the average American.

Haven't had time to read the thread, and maybe someone's said this already, but I logged in to post a thought that came to mind: Are we sure Chump's actually got the corona? We know he's not above lying, we know he's a crook, we know falsifying stuff's par course for him, we know he's trailing in the polls, we know he came off the "debate" looking like the loathsome subhuman gibbering creature he is, we know he's desperate to somehow postpone elections, and we know he's given to surrounding himself with people who are without spine and who supinely do his bidding: given all of that, I'm sure he's not above pretending he's got infected, in order to somehow stave off the defeat and the ignominy that's probably staring him in the face.

eta: Or else, even if the polls aren't actually put off, then at least create a narrative that doesn't show him abjectly whipped.

Yeah, ok, sounds CTish, I admit: but given the nature of the literally AMAZING creature we're speaking of here, it sounds ... let's say, not wholly implausible.

[...]what does sound implausible to the extreme is Trump and his cohorts of incompetents pulling that off in a credible manner.

Agreed.

In this day of social media, opinion news pieces, off-the-record discussions, and just general openness, the idea that Trump and his inner circle and the Republican Party faking all this is about as far-fetched theory as any conspiracy theory I've heard of.

Lol

All politicians are.

To pretend otherwise is frankly naive

I think you're missing the point Checkmite was making. While politicians do often stage photo ops, in western democracies they don't engage in lies, deceit and violence in order to do so.

For example, can you think of any western leader, other than Trump, who would use police equipped with military weapons to teargas peaceful protestors so that he can walk acros the street to hold up a bible for the Press and TV Cameras?

In fact judging from the red plastic tab taped to the edge, he isn't even signing a blank sheet of paper, he's signing the front of a binder divider.

I think this may be getting a bit silly.... To me the red thing looks like one of those little sticky things that a secretary sticks on a document to indicate to the boss where he/she is supposed to sign. And he is signing in the indicated position.

I think there could well be printed text on the page that is just much fainter than a think fountain pen signature.

So it's seems perfectly consistent with going through a bunch of things that need his signature.

We do, sadly. The resolution of the photograph was fairly high.

The red tag looks like a sticky tag to show where to sign. Hardly unusual for someone who signs documents day in and day out.

That isn’t a fountain pen.

I guess not. It looks like a fairly thick marker though, so the point still stands. In particular that the red thing very much looks like a `sign here' thing.

It’s a sharpie isn’t it? For signing or orders to leave international treaties or for altering weather forecasts.

From a Swedish newspaper today:

Presidenten hade dödsångest och behandlades med en experimentell droppcocktail och syrgas.
Staben försökte desperat lugna ner situationen – samtidigt som de oroade sig för hans ålder och hälsotillstånd.
Så beskrivs kaostimmarna inifrån Vita huset innan Donald Trump fördes iväg med helikopter.
– Ingen vet hur det här kommer sluta.
Kaostimmarna i Vita huset: Förvirring och oro (Aftonbladet.se, Oct. 4, 2020)
The president had death anxiety and was treated with an experimental drip cocktail and oxygen.
The staff desperately tried to calm down the situation - while worrying about his age and state of health.
This is how the hours of chaos are described from inside the White House before Donald Trump was taken away by helicopter.
- Nobody knows how this will end.
The chaotic hours in the White House: Confusion and anxiety

I'm looking forward to the movie:
