Watching the debate tonight?

The best comment I've seen regarding Trump's refusal to denounce white supremecy:

"Refuses to denounce?

He ******* told them to "stand by", as in for fuhrer orders."

As I said, only those with TDS were cheering Biden when he regressed to name calling the President of the USA. Thank you for proving my point so well.

Give me a break. Trump has failed to live up to the dignity of the office. Are you denying that Trump is a lying POS? The man has deliberately lied more than 20,000 times to the American people in the last 4 years. Do you think anyone who lies that much regardless of their office is entitled to respect?

How about when given the opportunity to denounce white supremacists and violence, he played a childish game. Or when given the opportunity when asked if he will promise a peaceful transition, he plays a childish game.

Are we deranged that his behavior disgusts us or maybe he is the one that is deranged? I'm convinced it is the latter. Personally, it make me sick that people like you are not disgusted by such behavior.

There's no way anybody could seriously actually think that a single solitary "shut up" is more severe, or even a percent of a percent as severe, as the constant stream of far worse things that have littered every single public appearance Trump has made in the last five years. It's just not possible. It would be like marveling at how enormous a 3" blade of grass was in the middle of the redwood forest. Not only would nobody do that, but nobody even really could.

When you're trying to poe, you do occasionally need to dial things back just a little bit to keep it plausible.

The pearl clutching over Biden telling Trump to shut up and calling him a clown is hysterical.

ETA: Speaking of the "disrespect" that Biden showed Trump by telling him to shut up and calling him a clown, ChrisBFRPKY seems to have no problem with Trump showing disrespect to former VP Biden by lying about his son Hunter. He falsely claimed that Hunter was dishonorably discharged and that he had no job before getting one through his father.

FWIW, my favourite footage from the debate is when Wallace said to Trump "could you let him finish?" and Biden said "He's not capable of that". He then started to speak and was interrupted, mid-sentence, by Trump smugly saying "You'd be surprised!"

If interrupting someone to boast that you're good at not interrupting people isn't peak Trump, then I don't know what is.

Trump had to have the last word because he's a control freak. That's why he interrupts constantly; it's how he tries to take control.

You could also tell how unhappy he was with how the debate was going by the scowl on his face. When he's happy and feeling in control, he has that Mussolini smug look you see at his rallies. Last night was all scowl.

So here's one poll that was done after the debate:

Debate-watchers say Biden won first debate, but most felt "annoyed" — CBS News poll This is a YouGov poll of likely voters, fwiw. Appears to be demographically and ideologically representative too.
Actually, only 48% said Biden won, compared to 41% for Trump. Which makes me think that people who already support Trump say he won and people who already support Biden say he won. 48% and 41% are pretty close to the current RCP average of national polls. (49.7% to 43.1%)
I've heard that political scientists think that the debates don't actually matter, and this poll would seem to be consistent with that. Voters who support Trump will (almost always) answer that he won the debate, and the same for those who support Biden.

There's 2 more debates to come, as well as one debate between the veeps. I don't expect any big swings in the polls to come from them.

Oh, I took that exchange to be

He's (Trump) not capable of "finishing" i.e. ejaculating during coitus (apologies for that mental image of the Presidential O-face :o)

You'd be surprised - I'm like a prize stallion

From Puppycow's link:

Fifty-two percent of Republicans said the debate made them feel better about Mr. Trump; 42% said their view of him had not changed.

After Trump's disgusting behavior last night, this is just pathetic and why I have no respect for them at all.

According to FiveThirtyEight:

Every scientific poll we’ve seen had Trump losing the debate, some by narrow margins and some by wide ones.

That includes the poll FiveThirtyEight conducted with Ipsos, which surveyed the same group of voters before and after the debate. While the poll didn’t show a massive swing — most voters stuck to their initial preferences — more voters did rate Biden’s performance favorably, and Biden gained ground relative to Trump based on the number of voters who said they were certain to vote for him, roughly tantamount to a 3-point swing toward Biden in head-to-head polls.
