Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 24

I understand that Pam Bondi will be speaking tonight about Biden and nepotism. She'll appear just before Tiffany Trump, followed later by Eric Trump, and Melania Trump.
...
It's almost worth watching for the comedy. But I'm watching this really good program on whooping cranes (seriously).

It's so laughable to hear people make Jim's claim. Most countries in the world have a mixture of free market economics and socialism including the United States. As Stacy has mentioned, the Scandinavian countries not only have proved countries with far greater amounts of socialism do just fine. In fact Sweden and Norway are frequently listed as two of the happier societies on Earth.

I believe that the US is proof that we are suffering from nowhere near enough socialism. The United States is a dystopian hell hole for the millions of homeless people living on the streets or in their cars. Our healthcare system is not only not good for those that can't afford it, it is not good for those that can where needless tests are ordered simply because the insurance will pay for it.

I wonder if Jim will or does turn down his Social Security checks and Medicare benefits because they're "socialism".

Damn. I made and shouldn't have just deleted a reply explaining I wasn't referring to democratic socialism. And certainly not to any societal safety nets. Bad timing.
But I should have been clearer in my original reply, that's on me.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, Jim.

Fair enough. I'm a little sensitive to it because I hear so many people in these rural towns I visit blast socialism and most of them don't have a clue about economics. It's just a bad word to them. Sort of a pet peeve.

That, along with all these people flying the American flag kind of annoys me.. Where I'm at right now. I see US flags not only in front of an amazing number of houses and farms, but flying behind every other pickup. And these aren't just miniature flags, but full sizes flags.

I'd bet 9 out of 10 wouldn't know more than the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

Anyway, I get you.

Agreed. Uber displays of patriotism have always irked the hell out of me. It's like a guy who has to let everyone know how much money he makes, or brags about how much his car costs, or someone who name drops to impress people.

It also seems to be something the right tends to do as if only they are 'real' Americans. The farther right, the bigger and more prominent the flag.

Flying a miniature American flag on a pickup sounds suspiciously socialist.

I fly a flag on my front porch for holidays and sometimes in the summer, but the full-size flag on a pickup is just too weird. There is a guy I see with the “join or die” flag with the snake of colonies around here.

Watching this pretend not to be fascist kabuki show is making me sick.

I've always wanted to drive a big-wheel monster truck flying a full-sized Iranian flag.

Yep. But I have to remind myself that a lot of this is about community. It's about "belonging" more than anything. But I find it annoying because I understand how dangerous this is especially when it is combined with a personality cult.

I've posted this clip before, from the documentary "Right America: Feeling Wronged-Some Voices from the Campaign Trail"

Agreed. It's about "Look at ME and SEE what I BELIEVE!"

ETA: It's a bit narcissistic.

I've been hanging around the Mt St Helens to Castle Rock to the Washington coast area this summer. This is logging country. The towns are small, the churches are large and the Rednecks are a plenty. Hunting and fishing around here aren't sports, they are religions.
Everybody and I mean everybody is white. There are also lots of Trump signs and Trump flags too. Occasionally, but rarely I see signs that say "Any functioning Adult 2020. That gives me a smile.
