Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 24

As I said yesterday, I can't tell who says what when that stuff is posted. Most of the retweets I have read come with a line from the person re-tweeting it, and I thought that's what the last line is on some of those quotes. Like some guy tweeted "nice thumbs up" and Trump forwarded it, adding "yes honey".

Then maybe you shout ignore posts on this forum that you find confusing and look for other, perhaps primary, sources. No one here has an obligation to ensure that you understand their posts. Especially a poster who so many others here seem to have no problem understanding.

Trump just now said "Tijuana is the probably the worst place in South America in terms of the China virus.."

How does someone so ignorant become POTUS? Boggles the mind.

The U.S. Postal Service will suspend any policy or operational changes until after the November presidential elections, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said Tuesday.
Right, but what about all the sorting machines they've already dismantled and boxes they've already removed? Will they be restored?
Keep in mind that the U.S. post office has been removing mail boxes for more than a decade, so it pre-dates Trump's attempts to sabotage the election. (This is due to a decline in the amount of mail people have been sending.)

There may be a financial/pragmatic case to be made for removing mail boxes/sorting machines eventually, although doing it right before the election is problematic.

I think the bigger problem isn't the removal of mail boxes, but changes to overtime rules, etc.

And, as below, continuing right before the election is problematic.

Yes.

Absolutely.

I can't wait to hear the rationale at the Congressional hearing next week. "Were you aware that there is an election very soon?"

Trump just now said "Tijuana is the probably the worst place in South America in terms of the China virus.."

I can’t find any sources reporting that.
Do you have a link?

I'm not sure if Trump said that "just now", and think that may be an error which someone made and others are passing along, but Trump did say essentially that back in June:

FactCheck.org said:
President Donald Trump falsely claimed, “Tijuana is the most heavily infected place anywhere in the world, as far as the plague is concerned,” referring to the novel coronavirus.

Trump made the inaccurate statement in remarks June 5 at a roundtable on supporting America’s fishermen in Bangor, Maine.

They're part of the "appeal to white supremacists" speaking block.

Other speakers will include George Zimmerman, Steve King, David Duke, and Diamond & Silk.

Those two sure looked supreme standin' on their lawn and awaivin' their guns. Got all dressed up for the occasion too. If that is a good example of the "supreme race" then racial supremacists in Trump's circle are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Bet they will talk every bit as fine as they look and act.

@Amazon, and others in that business, should be charged (by the U.S. Postal System) much more per package, and the Post Office would be immediately brought back to “good health”, now vibrant, with ALL jobs saved. No pass on to customers. Get it done!

In California, Democrats have intentionally implemented rolling blackouts — forcing Americans in the dark. Democrats are unable to keep up with energy demand...

...Meanwhile, I gave America energy independence in fact, so much energy we could never use it all. The Bernie/Biden/AOC Green New Deal plan would take California’s failed policies to every American!

The Democrats have to start enforcing Law and Order in their cities and states. New York City, Chicago and Portland are a total DISASTER!

Tell the Dems that we have more Cases because we do FAR more Testing than any other Country!

Maybe because a pardon is rather meaningless. It wasn't her name or reputation or even an injustice that needed pardoning. She was challenging the denial of voting rights through the courts. How does a pardon change that? What's Trump going to say at the ceremony, 'the judge was wrong'?

LA Times: Opinion: Trump doesn’t understand Susan B. Anthony’s fight, which is why he pardoned her
Interestingly, the three male election inspectors who let Anthony and the other women register and vote were also fined $25 each, which they refused to pay. They were jailed but released a month later after being pardoned by President Ulysses S. Grant — for whom Anthony had voted, and to whom she had lobbied to intervene in the inspectors’ cases.

Grant didn’t also pardon Anthony, but given the fire in her soul and her belief that she had done nothing wrong, and for which she had paid no penalty, it would be surprising if she wanted one. Besides, she could have asked when she had the chance.

The opinion:
But now Trump has done so — an opportunistic gesture that undercuts the power of Anthony’s original fight for voting rights nearly 150 years ago.

Every time I'm reminded of Herman Cain's death I can't help having an emotional twinge. A lot of people who have died from COVID bother me. John Prine especially does. But when I see another news account that mentions Herman Cain I keep thinking, he believed Trump, went to a rally and died. It's weird, really weird.

The funeral came and went. Of course Trump didn't go. That would have called attention to Trump's Oklahoma rally and Trump's failures.

Maybe it's just me.

Sorry, this is not really about Trump, but in case anyone is wondering - there is a Christian left. Maybe not enough to offset the evangelical wing, but I'm not so sure.

To poke at this a little more... there definitely is a Christian Left. Probably one of the biggest differences, though, is that they don't have politics oozing out of them. The separation of church and state is something that is healthy for both church and state, after all. The Religious Right, on the other hand... exists in large part as a tactic by the very rich to enhance and retain their power. Much of it can be traced back to the "devout" white supremacists of the Confederacy and their white supremacist Christian God that emphasized economic prosperity, after all, and has been used as a convenient vector by a number of business interests' PR teams in the time since. More than a few of the preachers of the Religious Right literally were preaching Republican propaganda from the pulpit. There's plenty more that could be gone into but... the point is that the Christian Left really doesn't have anything remotely comparable, at last check. It's much more wholesome, after all.

Mom turns 96 next month; looks like we may be able to celebrate with family!

Good luck!

To poke elsewhere...

Yet again, the Trump Administration is showing itself for what it is.

The cost of applying for citizenship is rising to over $1K.

The Trump Administration, of course, has been sabotaging USCIS quite a bit in general.

Also -

Trump admin couldn't rebut GAO report finding unlawful DHS appointments so it just went personal

Short version there - The GAO determined that Wolf and Cuccinelli of the DHS were unlawfully appointed. They were unable to refute the points made, so they hurled insults and tried to claim partisanship.

As some of the fallout from this, though...

“The Trump administration went around Congress to make invalid appointments of anti-immigrant white nationalists in violation of the law," CHC chair Joaquin Castro of Texas said in The Tribune. “From dismantling the immigration system to tear-gassing peaceful protestors, their authority is illegitimate. In light of this GAO decision, both Wolf and Cuccinelli must resign in disgrace or be removed from their positions immediately.”

On a more amusing note, I poked at this before, but here's a succinct 8 second bit of fun.
