And just like that we're right back to 2016 again.

CNN: https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/16/politics/cnn-poll-biden-trump-august/index.html

(CNN) Joe Biden's lead over Donald Trump among registered voters has significantly narrowed since June, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, even as the former vice president maintains an advantage over the President on several top issues and his choice of California Sen. Kamala Harris as a running mate earns largely positive reviews.

And on the eve of the party conventions, a majority of voters (53%) are "extremely enthusiastic" about voting in this year's election, a new high in CNN polling in presidential election cycles back to 2003.

Overall, 50% of registered voters back the Biden-Harris ticket, while 46% say they support Trump and Pence, right at the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Among the 72% of voters who say they are either extremely or very enthusiastic about voting this fall, Biden's advantage over Trump widens to 53% to 46%. It is narrower, however, among those voters who live in the states that will have the most impact on the electoral college this fall.

Across 15 battleground states, the survey finds Biden has the backing of 49% of registered voters, while Trump lands at 48%.

The pool of battleground states in this poll includes more that Trump carried in 2016 than were won by Hillary Clinton, reflecting the reality that the President's campaign is more on defense than offense across the states. Taken together, though, they represent a more Republican-leaning playing field than the nation as a whole.

The "dietary guidelines" are not anything but suggestions except for schools. Gee, wouldnt it be nice if our children were healthy? Hmmm..such a horible idea.

These are the people doing everything in their power to force kids back to school in the middle of a pandemic. "Healthy children" doesn't seem to be a priority for them.

I don't. I get it all the time from young female store clerks. It's because they think I'm old and harmless. I actually AM old and harmless, but I don't like being thought of that way.

As I have posted here a number of times over the years - I really don't give a ff what any stranger thinks of me. I don't bother myself caring much about strangers I encounter and I expect the same from them. Civil discourse is adequate and if they want to include trivial "endearing" terms as part of that discourse it's fine by me.

Some voters in NC received applications for absentee ballots that included Trump slogans and a couple of pictures of Trump.

CNN said:
Voters in North Carolina have received absentee ballot request forms in the mail with Trump's face on them

Given the crisis facing the United States Postal Service before a presidential election, the last thing John Herter expected to receive in the mail Saturday was an absentee ballot request form with President Donald Trump's face on it.

"Is this a joke?" Herter said his wife told him as she opened up the mailer to reveal a photo of Trump grinning underneath the words, "Are you going to let the Democrats silence you? Act now to stand with President Trump."

Herter, of Lincoln County is among a group of voters in North Carolina to receive the mailer over the past few days after Trump said that he opposed crucial USPS funding because he doesn't want to see it used for mail-in voting this November.

Women get it no matter what age they are from men. I don't like it from women, but I detest it from men. Men are never talked to like that.

It scares the hell out of me that Trump could get re-elected. If that POS can be re-elected, it truly means this country is freaking stupid beyond hope. I'll have to stop watching the news just to maintain my sanity. I honestly don't think I could cope with 4 more years of watching him.

Hey, looks like Benny himself fits right in with the Trump ethics. Fired for plagiarism by on employer. demoted for violating company ethics, being verbally abusive to staff and then fired by another. All in the space of 3 years. Surprised he is not already on Trump’s staff.

Wikipedia has numerous Ben Johnsons. Which one is being referred to?

That is indeed disturbing.

However, if it is any consolation, it is not the only poll that has been released recently, and others show that Biden is still maintaining a decent lead.

From: The independent
The president...trailed Mr Biden by 9 percentage points nationally in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released on Sunday. In other new polls, from CBS/YouGov and Fox News, Mr Biden held advantages of 10 points and 7 points, respectively.

My hope is that the CNN poll suggesting a closer race is either an outlier, or it just happened to fall on the low side, but within the margin of error. (Assuming the poll falls within the margin of error, they could in theory be tied, or Biden could be winning by ~8%.)

The Trump administration loses again...

From: CNN
The UN Security Council rejected a US proposal to extend the conventional weapons embargo on Iran Friday.

And here I thought Trump had made the U.S. respected in the world. Who knew that Trump's "America First" (combined with his racist rhetoric and childish behavior) would result in a situation where few countries want to support the U.S.?

Now that that attempt has failed, the U.S. wants to impose "snap-back" sanctions on Iran (basically re-impose all the restrictions that existed prior to the Obama deal). The problem for Trump is that the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the deal, so may not have the legal authority to re-impose the sanctions.

Leave it to the Trump administration to make IRAN look like the good guys.

The USA does not actually have any say in that deal any more. This is Trump just trying pretend he is still powerful after an international slapping. So I really hope the international response to such a request is limited to the following tweet: "Nuts"
