That's why Obama was part of the "Elite" despite growing up not particularly well off whereas Dubya and Trump aren't despite growing up the son of millionaires and attending top universities - because they didn't manage to acquire an education in the process...;)

The actual quote:
“Unlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different things," Biden said in the interview recorded Tuesday and released Thursday. "You go to Florida you find a very different attitude about immigration in certain places than you do when you're in Arizona."

Acknowledging that "Latino" isn't a uniform culture and varies widely depending on where the people are from.

Honestly, he could have dropped the "Unlike the African American community" part and the quote would read a whole lot better.

Politicians tend to speak like they have to fill time rather than communicating directly and simply.

It was about dissolving the NRA. I was hoping it was POTUS related, possibly some indictments for family members. Oh well...

I'm of mixed feelings about this. I am no fan of the NRA, but many Americans are very sensitive about 2A rights. A move like this, close to an election, might have a negative impact on some centrists. Especially so, possibly, since AG James is a woman, a Democrat and a person of color. I expect Republicans will be ranting about this non stop.

Why? This is going to be hard to put into words exactly but you have to try and put yourself into their headspace. The only sin they recognize is having standards you don't live up to 100%. Look at the language they use. Every complaint about the Left is the same. They are "pretentious." They are "hypocritical." They are "full of themselves." They "aren't as smart as they think they are." Notice a pattern? Stripped of the exact examples the complaint is always the same. "The Left is wrong because they have standards they don't live up to 100% all the time, ergo not having any consistent standards is better."

It's why every argument from them is a gotcha/Oh lookie I get to use your own argument against you/Shoes on the other foot type.

I hung out at fstdt.com (oh look, it still exists), and there was a period when the fundies, having realised that logic and reason refuted Christianity and magical thinking in general... simply decided to reject logic and reason. They even did it openly, saying it in so many words. I keep thinking of this memory when I see trumpkins not even try to be morally consistent -- Trump does something and it's locker room talk, sarcasm, or fake news. Biden or Obama or Clinton does the same thing, only in a far less serious way, and they jump on the "scandal" as bullet-proof evidence they are horrible people and/or unfit for the presidency.

The bizarre and infinitely frustrating part is how they do it openly. They don't even try to hide it, like the playground bully who acts like no rules apply to him.

That's one thing I don't understand: Considering the situation, why does Biden not have people check every single statement he makes in public? He KNOWS his opponent is going to pounce on everything that can be construed to be "wrong", so, I mean he's not exactly the flamboyant improviser anyway, so why doesn't he have some staff to check out stuff before he says it in public.

... Trump ought to do so, too, but we know why HE doesn't.

As much as that sounds reassuring, I'm skeptical, to be honest. I watched an interview on YouTube, and he had quite the 'showman', almost snake oil peddler delivery of his system. Everyone else is wrong, and polls are worthless, but he, he has worked out this revolutionary system that's right every time, the mainstream just haven't caught on yet. Oh, he met a Russian, and a guy predicting earthquakes, how cool!

But he's been right eight times in a row... like a lot of other people who were ultimately just guessing, about everything from horse races to stock trading. Also, far from all of those eight election victories were really that hard to call in the first place. I don't know how consistently he used his system, granted, but up to several of the yes/no questions seem subjective to me when he listed them, and I disagreed with several of his answers.

I mean, I want Trump to lose as much as the next person, but this guy just raises all the red flags for me.

ETA: I would also expect him to apply his system to presidential elections going as far back as he could, data permitting, perhaps all the way back to the founding of the USA. If he has, the report doesn't go into detail on how many times he was wrong. Remember, in a two-party system, the election victory is essentially a coin toss, and it's not too hard to flip a coin eight times and get heads every time.

How can you be sure? And the only one that seems subjective to me is charisma.
