Port Chicago disaster

The Port Chicago disaster was a deadly munitions explosion that occurred on July 17, 1944, at the Port Chicago Naval Magazine in Port Chicago, California, United States. Munitions detonated while being loaded onto a cargo vessel bound for the Pacific Theater of Operations, killing 320 sailors and civilians and injuring 390 others. Most of the dead and injured were enlisted African American sailors.

The reason for this was never officially pinned down, probably because it was wartime and to protect any higher-ups.

Of course, there was a reason for the Beirut explosion, but it's possible it might never be exactly determined.

To put this back on topic, Trump is just blowing sharts out of his butt.

Considering the history of the area, it's not out of bounds to assume it was a bomb in the first place. But you don't speculate about it on international TV without having at least some evidence. Not that that ever stopped news organizations, either, but they seem to have held off in this case.

Incredible! The man can't keep a train of thought and he claims Biden can't string two sentences together. What is all this nonsense about the Second Amendment and Catholics? Catholics have as disparate views on gun control as the general population. There is no 'Catholic' view. Even more outrageously stupid is his claim he 'saved' the SA. How? Who was going to be 'pushed around'? That's some stable genius, all right!

Of course he saved the SA. After the house, the senate, and 2/3 of your states voted to repeal it Trump stood alone on the steps of the Capitol building bathed in a glorious light with a revolver in each hand, a flag wrapped around his Adonis-like body, his foot on Obama’s corpse, and said “NO!“.

Don’t you pay attention to the news?

I am sure that in Trump’s mind it happened exactly like that.

It reminds me of the obviously mentally ill people we get sometimes in the CT and Religion sub-forums. The ones where you can only really hope they find help. Now the US has one of those people as POTUS, in the middle of a pandemic and a period of polarization and social upheaval. I'm not sure if he could have won the election at a worse time.
 
To me the sheer pace of the stupidity seems to have increased. A year or so back Trump might go a few hours, even a day, without saying/doing something truly stupid, now it seems to every hour on the hour.

It's the urgency brought on by sinking poll numbers and a rapidly approaching election. He knows that he can't win a debate at this point because he now has a record that can be interrogated, and he knows that most of the US population doesn't see it as the unending string of wins that he might claim. He also probably knows that there is no moderator that would give him a pass on his bald-faced lies.

So, what does that leave? It leaves him campaigning, and constantly lying is the only way he knows how to do that. His options for speaking in person to large groups of friendlies are limited because of the pandemic, so he's left with going on TV every chance he gets to lie. Unfortunately for him, the media - sometimes including Fox - aren't letting his lies pass without comment anymore.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he gave up at the closed convention and asked the delegates to nominate Pence in his place. I don't think he could handle the official L.
