Self-delusion because he believes his fantasy and has no idea it's a fantasy. He's craving attention and can't have rallies so news interviews are the next best thing. But he can't be interviewed by MSM News sources because he knows they will call him on his lies. In Trump's mind the 'fake news' lies about him. (In his own interview no less, but I digress.)

So Trump thinks another news agency/reporter will believe Trump's fantasy.

Real 'Muricans from the Heartland vote Red. Ergo epso facto states that go Blue are caused by non-Americans voting. That's just science.

I think (or rather, hope) it's because his handlers are about to throw him under a bus. There must be a lot of reasonably sane Republicans who see him as the loose cannon he is. Most don't have the guts to oppose him openly and get blemed for giving the election to the Dems, so they want Trump to self-destruct, so the blame for loosing the election will fall on himself.

Well, Trump voted by mail in Florida, so obviously that's ok. Otherwise he would be a hypocrite, and we know he isn't that.

No, it is only a fraud in states where he hasn't and doesn't plan to vote by mail.

Someone must have finally got through to him that voting by mail is exactly what he did and most likely intends to do again. I just never thought I'd see him, or his account, assert the specific Vote by Mail / Absentee Voting equality. Pretending their was a distinction was the last pretense they had. Now not only has this assertion forced the pretense to move over to the various systems used themselves it also gives what is a workable model sufficient for even his own use. I expect this to be perceived as a slap in the face to the stanchest 'in person voting' (primarily) advocates.

One of the things I've gathered from conservative pundits is that they really believe that they represent the vast majority of Americans. Ergo, when liberals win it's because they cheat.

It's just denial. Denial that their way of life is on the way out.
 
I have to wonder how that interviewer got so much out of him, without too much resistance. Maybe it's because he has a cool accent, a foreigner, and Trump never thought the interview would air in America?

Well, at one point in the interview, Trump did pause briefly to say "Look at that smile". Assuming he was talking to Jonathan, we can guess that Trump likes him since he has that "central casting" look that Trump loves.

He has not seen the country for which he is the Head of State, nor bothered to learn very much about it.

I expect his speechwriter has been fired for putting that word in.
