“The way he deals with people based on the colour of their skin, their national origin, where they’re from, is absolutely sickening,” the former vice president said."

“No sitting president has ever done this. Never, never, never. No Republican president has done this. No Democratic president. We’ve had racists, and they’ve existed. They’ve tried to get elected president. He’s the first one that has.”

Is this actually true?
Its not strictly true. As others have pointed out, other presidents have engaged in various forms of racism (Nixon commenting on the Jews, plus you have presidents who were slave owners).

But, I think there is some subtle context at play. The other presidents, while they may have been racist, were either 1) a lot more subtle about their racism, keeping it private (such as Nixon), or 2) their racism was not that far out of the mainstream for their time.

Trump is unique in that his racism is both on full display (he has made his comments directly to the media, no second-hand claims), AND is outside the current social norms (to the point that even some republicans have distanced themselves from his comments.)

And while it may not get as much attention, Trump's habit of nominating people who are unsuitable to be judges is drawing unwanted attention to something that is often a rather... uneventful activity.
Q: What do you call someone who is entirely unfit to sit on the federal bench, but who is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate?
A: Judge.

For life.

If his nominees cost Trump votes, they were never guaranteed in the first place. But they cement his support among evangelicals and traditional Repubs who don't like the man, but who want to win any way they can.
But if Trump nominated competent (and scandal-free) right-wing judges, he would still get the votes from evangelicals and traditional republicans, without potentially alienating moderates, and without giving so much ammunition to the democrats.

I can remember the social norms of the 60's and am amazed (and pleased) by the extent to which they've changed in just my lifetime. Trump remembers them and still has them.

Agreed. We cannot count presidents who lived in a time of accepted and legal slavery or pre-1960's. Damn near all white people were racist at that time.

Trump Retweeted

The White House
@WhiteHouse
"Today, my Administration reached a historic agreement with Pfizer, to produce and deliver 100 million doses of their vaccine immediately following its approval."

"From the beginning, we have made it our top priority to shelter our seniors."

Our nationwide positive Coronavirus test rate is on the decline.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend Charles Evers. Charles was a trail blazer in politics and a fearless leader, alongside his brother Medgar, for Civil Rights.

Yes, of course he was your friend.
Of course you are deeply saddened.
We know these things are true because you sent this tweet out on the @WhiteHouse account and not the @RealDonaldTrump account. @WhiteHouse is always where you share you deepest and most heartfelt feelings.

Well, more precisely, you tweeted it out on @WhiteHouse before you retweeted your sentiments on the @RealDonaldTrump account.

Pfizer has made statements they are hopeful for approval in Oct. 2020.

What convenient timing.

It'll be a "paper launch" only, but the "splash" is the goal, anyways.

I've been saying it for weeks now - a grand announcement that President Trump has saved the US from Coronavirus, a massive bump in approval, reelection and then it turns out that the announcement isn't as it seems and there's no vaccine in the immediate future.

The ambassador hasn't said it. A former staff member has.
I think the ambassador has denied it.

I'm sure the point has been made multiple times, but I'm baffled by this line of argument by Trump's minions:

They know under whose watch this is actually happening, don't they?
