"As Americans, it's our body or choice to take the risk of getting COVID-19"

Sure, as long as we're not talking about a woman's reproductive rights.

People around you also have separate rights. If protecting a foetus is not an infringement on an individuals rights since it protects a separate body, then why a different tune for masks?

Part of a July 16th speech on “Rolling Back Regulations to Help All Americans.

"We’re bringing back consumer choice in home appliances so that you can buy washers and dryers, showerheads and faucets. So showerheads — you take a shower, the water doesn’t come out. You want to wash your hands, the water doesn’t come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer? Because my hair — I don’t know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect.

Dishwashers — you didn’t have any water, so you — the people that do the dishes — you press it, and it goes again, and you do it again and again. So you might as well give them the water because you’ll end up using less water. So we made it so dishwashers now have a lot more water. And in many places — in most places of the country, water is not a problem. They don’t know what to do with it. It’s called “rain.” They don’t have a problem."

The usual rambling incoherence. Bragging about his perfect hair. Insisting that, because some people have a lot of water, nobody has a problem with water. "The people that do the dishes", since you know that he's never washed a dish in his life.

Never has one President so loudly announced that he knows so little about so many things.

Mr.President, they didn’t just take the old dishwashers and add a water limiter. The entire machine was redesigned and now works better than before. Furthermore, your “rollbacks” have done nothing. The dishwasher companies have already converted their factories to the new line. They are not going to find the space, the money, and the labor to build an old-style dishwasher assembly line when (A) they know that in 3 or in 51 months, a rational person will become president and that person will un-rollback the regulations, and (B) they know you are talking out your ass.

FFS, there are many high school sophomores who
-have a better understanding of how the world works.
-have a better understanding of how the federal government works
-know more US and world history
-can give a more coherent speech
-can make fewer grammar and spelling errors when writing tweets.
-can work with people they don’t like without publicly calling them childish names.

ETA
-can go longer without telling a lie or making things up.

Not sure if it's been mentioned.

"President Donald Trump attempted to wield his political influence to get the prestigious British Open golf tournament hosted at his Trump Turnberry resort in Scotland, The New York Times reported Tuesday."

The guy who reported it to the State Department then got forced out.

"Johnson reportedly ignored ethics concerns raised by his then-deputy, Lewis Lukens, and floated the idea with the secretary of state for Scotland, David Mundell, per the Times. Lukens later reportedly flagged the request with State Department officials. He was later forced out of his role at the U.S. embassy in London after telling a positive anecdote about former President Barack Obama during a speech, reported the Times."

I've never quite understood how filling judicial slots is somehow an achievement for any President. It seems pretty easy to me. If you are a conservative President, you nominate conservative judges. If you are a liberal President, you nominate liberal judges.

Not sure how simply making the logical choice in that situation for anyone is praise worthy.

That's not the way it works, but I'll give you a break due to your location.
If you are a Democrat President, you nominate qualified people and The Great Turtle refuses to allow them to be voted on, or even have a hearing. If you are a Republican President, the Federalist Society nominates unqualified ideologues and you and the turtle rubber stamp it, even if they are alcoholic rapists.

Note that I said "Republican" and "Democrat", not "Liberal" or "Conservative". It's ONLY about party.

Trump's taking credit for getting more judges appointed than Obama is pretty sick.

I remember when we got our new washing machine (clothes), and I was like, where is all the water? And the answer was, you don't need to fill the whole thing up with water to get clothes clean.

Now, I don't think it rinses as well as it could, and it seems like more water would help there, but, you know, these companies have really smart engineers working for them that do things like figure out exactly how much rinsing has occurred and stuff like that, so my opinion isn't really all that meaningful in that regard.

The first thing a dishwasher does is to assess the contents to determine how much water is going to be needed. And it uses that, instead of wasting water.

While your assessment is accurate, I doubt it actually means anything to someone who is confused by the process.

My theory is that Trump's popularity dips when people think that there is a landslide in his popularity about to happen - it's very much like a stock index testing a bearish barrier, and rebounding when the barrier isn't broken.
In effect, people are getting ready to ditch Trump, but won't commit unless plenty of company comes along.

Latest Rasmussen poll has President Trump's approval rating at 49%.

Even after adjustment for Rasmussen's bias, fivethirtyeight.com says that's still 44% approval and it's 4% to 5% higher than last week's Rasmussen poll.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/?cid=rrpromo

At the moment, that looks very much like an outlier. YouGov, American Research Group and Moning Consult - all rated higher that Rasmussen - had about equally recent polls where Trump's adjusted popularity has dipped below 40%.

This is where a charismatic Democratic challenger would come in real handy, to convince them to flip.

Unfortunately, we have Biden, who is by all accounts a decent fellow, but he's hardly inspiring.

I'm not sure it's an "accomplishment" as such. i.e. it isn't praiseworthy as a personal accomplishment, but the people praising him are pointing out that the results would be very different if he were replaced by a Democrat.

However, there is even more to it than Trebuchet's post implies. So, just in case you don't understand the process....

The President nominates a judge. The Senate then approves or rejects the judge. In recent years, this process has turned very, very, partisan. A Republican Senate is likely to reject nominees from a Democratic President. Famously, in the case of Merrick Garland and the Supreme Court, they wouldn't even vote on him.

However, there's more to it than just a senate vote. District judges are federal judges that operate within a state. Traditionally, a Senator from that state can object to a District Court nominee for a court in his state. This results in the nominees being rejected, or at best delayed. Other presidents have also deferred to the senators from that state in choosing a nominee, so that they don't pick rabid conservatives in states with liberal senators. I don't know the ins and outs of this process, and how firm it is, but it's referred to as the "Blue Slip", because there's a form on a blue piece of paper that Senators use to record their opinions.

Trump has been very successful at getting judge positions filled with conservative judges, even in states where there are Democratic senators.

ETA: And I don't understand the "blue slip" process myself. I just know that I hear conservative commentators praise Trump for successfully ramming through judicial nominees despite efforts by Democrats to stop them.

Those lower courts don't get as much press, but if you get conservative lower courts, there are cases that will never make it to the Supreme Court. Plus, future Supreme Court justices are almost always chosen from the lower ranks. Trump has been very successful at filling vacancies in the lower courts.

Indeed. Nobody supports losers. And Trump starts to look like one.

Off topic, but whenever I see the word spelled the way you have, my mind's ear hears "foo eat us."

No, I don't do drugs.

It's from "foe", as the gestating human is the enemy of all older humans. It seeks to destroy us, so we should get it before it gets us! #AbortTheEnemies #FoeToUs #PregnancyIsTreachery
