Another bizarre Trump belief. You're born with a certain amount of energy, and exercise uses it up.
This, from the book "Trump Revealed," by Washington Post reporters Michael Kranish and Marc Fisher, explains Trump's theory in a bit more detail:
"After college, after Trump mostly gave up his personal athletic interests, he came to view time spent playing sports as time wasted. Trump believed the human body was like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, which exercise only depleted. So he didn't work out. When he learned that John O'Donnell, one of his top casino executives, was training for an Ironman triathlon, he admonished him, 'You are going to die young because of this.'"

Some more bad polling news for Stubby McBonespurs.

You know how the common belief was that Trump enjoys what little popularity he has because people think he is the best one to handle the economy?

From: CNBC
President Donald Trump’s approval rating on his handling of the U.S. economy has dropped dramatically in the last month, according to a new poll....only 44% of people approve of the way Trump is handling the U.S. economy, compared with 52% from the month before.

If that holds (not necessarily a guarantee) then you might see even more of a drop in his approval rating. The bottom might finally fall out.

That cease and desist letter to CNN for airing a poll showing Biden ahead by 11 points nationally is looking pretty stupid right now.

True.
But to be fair, pretty much everything he does looks pretty stupid as he does it or within a couple of weeks.

And then, some things look pretty stupid immediately.

What the actual ****???

Anderson Cooper (CNN) kept this picture up for a full ten minutes during his opening segment and it was astounding.

I am pleased to announce that Bill Stepien has been promoted to the role of Trump Campaign Manager. Brad Parscale, who has been with me for a very long time and has led our tremendous digital and data strategies, will remain in that role, while being a Senior Advisor to the...

Wow. The @nytimes is under siege. The real reason is that it has become Fake News. They never covered me correctly - they blew it. People are fleeing, a total mess!

Joe Biden and the Radical Left want to Abolish Police, Abolish ICE, Abolish Bail, Abolish Suburbs, Abolish the 2nd Amendment – and Abolish the American Way of Life. No one will be SAFE in Joe Biden’s America!

The Biden-Sanders unity plan takes a sledgehammer to charter schools, punishing students for their zip codes. No one will be SAFE in Joe Biden’s America!

By Nov. 3 Trump will be claiming that Biden wants to Abolish people.

I think the words he left out were "You're fired".

Sure. Quieter, not silent. Even the Welrod only got down to 70dB plus and that is still in use from WW2 vintage as a "silent" weapon. And the cost for such silencing? A 30 yard effective range. Great for cloak and dagger stuff, useless otherwise.

Even in the movies, they are not silent, just a different sound at about the same of level of volume.

I expect something more like “Because the extreme left cares more about cows than people, they want to replace beef with human flesh. They are already test marketing Soylent Green.”

With 40% of the vote - you're right unless there's a third party candidate pulling a significant number of votes.

With 40% support it's absolutely possible so long as a much larger proportion of the 40% turn out to vote than the 60% - which in any case is not a homogeneous group, a significant minority of that 60% would never vote Democratic in any circumstances.
What 60%? 60% of the GOP?

It doesn't matter, he doesn't have the middle.

I cannot, but then again President Trump is unprecedented. No President has had had such a poor average approval rating, but then again his approval rating has been the most consistent in history.

In other words, maybe only 40% of people approve of him, but they *really* approve of him and will absolutely vote for him. Add in a sprinkling of people who will hold their noses and vote GOP and maybe he can get 45% of the popular vote which, given effective enough voter suppression in key states, may well be enough to get him across the line.

I do however expect a series of announcements in October which will be aimed at boosting his popularity. I expect some combination of:

  • Cure and/or vaccine against Covid-19 (which may or may not be actually true)
  • Great economic numbers - almost necessarily there will be good economic growth given how badly and quickly the economy has contracted
  • International "wins" against China or North Korea or someone

Even if the bump only lasts a few weeks, that may be enough to get across the line.
That's possible, but if the Democrats aren't completely stupid (no guarantee) they'll show how the stock market, if that is the measure, represents more rich people than not. Apparently the Fed keeping interest rates low is encouraging the wealthy to borrow money to invest in the stock market.

I'll try to find a link tomorrow.

60% of the electorate. He has the support of 85%+ of the GOP.

If the middle doesn't turn out to vote, or votes for a party other than the Democrats then it doesn't matter so much.

I wasn't thinking about the stock market, more that there'll be some pretty spectacular looking monthly economic and job numbers as the US claws its way out of the recession. The fact that it'll still be well behind where it was won't matter to some people when they see "5% growth" headlines.

And here is an excellent candidate for the highlighted...

The Trump Administration can make a grand announcement in October that it has found a vaccine for Covid-19 neglecting to mention that the earliest it can actually be deployed is some time in 2022. The US electorate will be relieved that things will go back to normal in a few weeks and reward President Trump for winning "the war" against Covid-19 by reelecting him. :(

In the euphoria, his utter mismanagement of the US government's response will be forgotten.
Pretty sure they are talking about Nov for the results of phase 3. Then you have production and distribution.

Given Trump has shown incompetence in controlling the virus without a vaccine, we are going to have a disastrous Aug. Not sure what Sept/Oct has in store but it's so unlikely fumbling Trump blaming others for his incompetence is going to win votes.
