Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 23

There are likely also people who won't even state anonymously that they no longer support him, because that would require admitting to themselves that they made a bad decision by initially supporting him. If they made a bad decision then, what other bad decisions have they made? Are things they're upset about in their life actually their own fault? Unacceptable.

I think you're close. My take on it has always been more:

"All politicians are dirty. At least Trump doesn't hide it. That (through insane troll logic) makes me better then the people who support politicians who don't just admit they are dirty."

Basically a fair number (no I can't put some X exact percentage on it) of Trump's key demographic holds the opinion that all politicians are just as bad as Trump, and by supporting Trump instead of the other politicians, they are "winning" the game by not kidding themselves.

Again it ties back into this core idea they all seem to have that all sins are some variation on daring to have standards but not living up to them, so the only way to win is to have no standards and mock and deride everyone who does because they'll never be able to live up to them, mixed in with a fair sprinkling of that nihilistic belief that everything is not only bad, but equally bad.

It's why being pretentious, being full of yourself, being dramatic, "not being as smart as you think you are" and things like that are the only sins they recognize while being outright evil, wrong, stupid, or hurtful they brush off. Because, in their twisted world view the later views are at least honest.

If the audio is representative then they truly work - the suppressed sounds just sound like machinery/a mechanical switch of some type opening or closing.

From what thingymyjib (sorry can't recall name at the moment) has posted about them in the past I'm doubly surprised, I really thought they didn't make much difference.

It depends on what type they are and their size.
It is possible to completely silence a gun. British forces used pistols and carbines in WW2 that were so quiet all you hear is the click of the firing mechanism. There is a version of the Sterling sub machine gun that is completely silent still in service and the Welrod ww2 silenced pistol is still in service and was used by the SBS and SAS in the Falklands for taking out sentries.

I thought that was his plan, when he expected to lose in 2016. Start his own TV channel to rival Fox News. TrumpTV! Then things went crazy and he got stuck with a bunch of work instead.

That seems to well thought out and reasonable for a Trump plan.

I must sadly agree with you.

Many of these folks aren’t people who smell the stench, hold their noses, and say that they approve of Trump. These are people who smell the stench and say, “finally we have a politician that smells like me.”

I think it might actually be worse. These people stink so much themselves, that when they smell Trump and he's only got his individual stench to differentiate from theirs, that they think "finally, here's a politician who almost doesn't stink at all!".

Perhaps better in the other thread, but how will that 40% change when Covid-19 deaths (per voting population) in ruby red places approach those in the tri-state area (NYC, a few other NY counties, a handful of NJ and CT counties)?

Not by a lot, if Trump successfully scapegoats and blames something/someone else for his complete failure.

Trump Tweets

Would be so great if the Media would get the word out to the people in a “fair and balanced” way. We will win anyway, but they are a far more difficult adversary than their Radical Left Do Nothing Democrat Partner!

I have no evidence that the percentage is above 2-3% but some still support him because he trolls the Liberuls and makes them mad.

On the other hand, I have no evidence that it is below 15-20%

Remember how horrible and insulting it was when Hillary Clinton suggested that coal miners would benefit from looking for alternate careers? Ivanka Trump is spearheading a new initiative telling people who've lost their jobs because the pandemic to "Find Something New".

Four months before the presidential election, Ivanka Trump, adviser to her father President Donald Trump, is promoting a new ad campaign dubbed, "Find Something New."

Aimed at helping unemployed Americans find new careers, the initiative launched Tuesday with a virtual roundtable hosted at the White House featuring Ivanka Trump and business leaders, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, and a reveal of one of the ads, a 30-second spot with a handful of people telling their employment stories.

"Now, as a result of Covid, people need to, unfortunately, in some cases learn a completely new skill," said Trump on Tuesday during the launch. "But that is also an opportunity to be put on for a new trajectory for themselves and their lives and we want to facilitate that connection back to the workforce and make it as smooth as possible."

It feels a little like "if you're poor, stop being poor." How many people who've lost their jobs have the freedom and economic stability to just choose a new career path and obtain the necessary skills?

Thanks.

I should have chosen purple (like AZ, FL, TX), not ruby red. Only a modest reduction in the 40% of support could make a big difference in the EC votes. Will the number of Covid-19 deaths exceed 15k, say, in any (all) of those states by late October?

I'm also slackjawed at the one eighty on the attitude that Clinton's election plank around huge spending to retrain people in dying industries like coal mining, were described by Trumpies as insensitive and disconnected from reality.

People on this forum, actually.

Yeah, I read the story online.

It falls into that category of advice which can be useful if it comes from your favorite uncle and can be annoying if it comes from a cow-orker you don’t respect.
And it can be downright infuriating if it comes from someone who has never actually had to work, to construct a household budget, or to go into debt for education.

What was Trump’s take on that? Something about computers needing small parts and miners having big hands that they wouldn’t want to use in making small parts.

There is a Trump press conference going on right now that was billed as remarks on the nations response to the coronavirus pandemic.

So far, it's just Trump rambling about things Biden has said recently or things that Biden/Obama did or didn't do in the past.

This is a mind boggling presser, even by Trump standards.

Compared to Mr Stubby, everyone has big hands.

This astoundingly bad answer says something about law enforcement that I'm positive Trump didn't mean to say.

Asked why "African Americans are still dying at the hands of law enforcement," Trump tells CBS
"So are white people. So are white people. What a terrible question to ask. So are white people. More white people, by the way. More white people." https://cbsnews.com/news/trump-black-americans-killed-police-white-too/
