Nonsense. The only person upset that Cohen was having dinner with his family outside of his home was Trump.

Over 16,000 prisoners have been released from prison because of COVID. It's quite clear that this was a selective action.
 
I'm completely outraged at Trump commuting Stone's sentence in what is a glaringly obvious reward for lying to Congress to cover up for Trump. As this power is solely given to the POTUS, it would require an amendment to the Constitution to stop this abuse of power. While I think the vast majority of Americans would agree this to such an amendment, I have little confidence that some red states would vote to pass it simply because it was Trump who did it. It makes me sick to see GOP Congress members defending this commutation. I find it totally indefensible and the lack of outrage, even support, from the GOP/conservatives disgusting.

Maybe. But on the other hand, if it were a Democrat in power, they'd be all for restricting the ability to pardon/commute sentences. (Remember how the Republicans howled when Obama commuted the sentence of Chelsea Manning.)

It does look like Lindsey Graham and Gym Jordan have both supported commuting his sentence. I am surprised that any of them do. Not that there is much integrity in the republican party, but I figured they would realize that commuting Stone would more likely harm the GOP than provide any benefit, so would have stayed silent.

There is at least one republican congress-critter who has condemned it...

Graham and Jordan are so far up Trump's butt it would take repeated enemas to get them out.

Romney is proving himself to be the only GOP member of Congress with any sense of honor.

At a moment when he needs to calm restive Republicans, Trump may antagonize them further by commuting Roger Stone’s 40-month sentence. According to sources, Trump has told people he wants to commute Stone’s sentence before Stone reports to prison on July 14. Rumors swirled over the weekend that Trump would announce it on Sunday night. Sources say the West Wing is at war over a possible Stone commutation. White House counsel Pat Cipollone is against the move, and even Attorney General Bill Barr is opposed. “Barr has told Trump not to do it, and if he does there will be a mutiny at DOJ,” said a source briefed on the internal debates.

I'll believe the bolded part when it happens. The lack of outrage from the GOP regarding Stone's commutation just goes to show how low the party of "law and order" has sunk.

People close to Trump fear he won’t listen. “You can’t underestimate how hard it is to get information through to him,” a Republican close to the White House said. “When you talk to him, he just talks at you. He doesn’t like to read memos, so there’s not really a way to get through to him. Everyone agrees.” (The White House declined to comment.)

I agree, it's an all-new low even for trump. First, the pressure to get DOJ to drop its case against Michael Flynn -- after he'd pleaded guilty! -- now this. You just really really hope at some point the Republicans will say enough. trump is destroying our democracy piece-by-piece. :(

Hope trump comes down with coronavirus? I hope he gets hit by a truck!

I agree he went cap in hand and swallowed his pride almost 4 years ago. But since then, he was they ONLY GOP senator to place a guilty vote at the impeachment. That showed guts and honor as does his condemnation of Stone's commutation. I don't care if it's 'sour grapes' as you put it. It still took more courage and honor than any other GOP Congress member has shown.
 
I'm starting to feel naive that I'd been half-expecting the trumpkins to turn on Trump in droves after all the ways he's messed up, and all the things he has done recently. Thinking back, I remember that I've long since decided that the cultists who follow him now are going to stick with him regardlessly, either because they're safe and snug in a Trump-friendly bubble, where no eebil fake news trump hate can reach them, or because they're horrible people who love him for what he is. Or for that matter both.

I'm trying to imagine what could be significantly worse than what he's already done, and I guess I don't want that thing to happen. He's used armed servicemen to disperse peaceful protestors (and also clergy inside the church, who were also affected by the tear gas) for a stupid photo op with a bible. He's pardoned at least one war criminal. He's mostly standing idly by, or actively making things worse, as a pandemic infects millions in his country. And I can come up with a hundred more things if I try.

If he has to do something significantly worse than any of the things he's done so far for his approval rating to plummet, I say, let his cult stand by him. He'll probably have to shoot up a Trump rally or something to get his supporters to turn away from him, and frankly I'm not sure if even that would work.

I see only two likely possibilities, that he has a straw-that-broke-the-camel's-back moment and his supporters suddenly decide that enough is enough, or that he's voted out in November.

The alternative, that he is re-elected, is too terrible to contemplate.

They had their chance and blew it. The only time they'll have negative things to say about him is AFTER he (hopefully) loses in November.

Or even if they don't care about democracy (hint: they don't), they should at least say "Enough... you're making us look bad and making it harder for us to get re-elected so we can give more tax breaks to millionaires".

Then of course we will hear about how they were all working against Trump in secret all along.

Although it might be a bit... complex for them. Even if Stubby McBonespurs loses in November, he would still have millions of supporters. Criticizing him too soon might cause some blow-back in the 2022 midterms.

Romney is a Republican, and Trump was the newly elected Republican President. Trump apparently dangled SecState in front of him and he responded, handing Trump the opportunity to publicly humiliate him. I would have respected him more if he had said "Please drop dead," but at least some Republicans -- Mattis particularly -- went to work for Trump in hopes of protecting the government.
