The lack of vaccines for other coronaviruses may not mean much.
SARS seemed to be handled with quarantine procedures and is no longer circulating. MERS is still around but has far fewer victims, so vaccine development probably wasn't a priority.

Not necessarily. The numbers The Don quoted are what the experts seem to be expecting, but because a lot of infected people are asymptomatic or haven't been tested for one reason or another, we may only be aware of 10-20% of cases. The number of deaths, however, is probably pretty reliable.

Still, it is a distinct possibility that an effective vaccine vill not be found, or will take a long time. Vira are notoriously tricky in that respect.

I think you're right, but all kinds of scientists seem to be very optimistic about developing one for Covid-19
In any case, if anyone expects that if there is a vaccine is available on 1 Jan 2021 that it'll be business as usual on the 2nd is going to be very disappointed. Look at how long it took to rid the world of smallpox despite having an effective vaccine and how impossible it seems to eliminate polio due to certain groups being sure that vaccination is a US/NWO plot

There is no old coronavirus where vaccine would be profitable. There was development for SARS vaccine, but since SARS went away, there is no demand for it, and all research was stopped.
There are other coronaviruses, but none which causes severe disease.
