Circular Economy & Recycling & e-Waste

Since I last posted, I've seen that:

Australia had a circular economy plan at least as early as December 2018.

NSW launched theirs in April.

The EU announced The EU Green Deal this month.

Meanwhile, my town in Australia has had sustainable, decentralised networks and an Internet of Things being planned for years and years.

We've had biophilic design used as a feature in town planning since the 1970s.

We live in an vast area with rapid growth in wind farming.

This post is already TL;DR for most in here, and they won't cope.

Posting for future reference.

I started this thread a year ago.

For posterity, see also this post which will be lost in the Black Swan thread:

[This is bigger than a Financial black swan event.

Is there even a term for a global event of this scale?]

I asked [that] earlier, and my algorithms let me receive.

"The Great Reset."

From the likes of The World Economic Forum, Davos, Forbes.

""The Great Reset” is a commitment to jointly and urgently build the foundations of our economic and social system for a more fair, sustainable and resilient future.

"It requires a new social contract centred on human dignity, social justice and where societal progress does not fall behind economic development."

(Probably far more positive than any of you were thinking, but what else would you expect from me? :))

I like this bit:-
“COVID-19 has accelerated our transition into the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We have to make sure that the new technologies in the digital, biological and physical world remain human-centred and serve society as a whole, providing everyone with fair access,” he said.

“This global pandemic has also demonstrated again how interconnected we are. We have to restore a functioning system of smart global cooperation structured to address the challenges of the next 50 years. The Great Reset will require us to integrate all stakeholders of global society into a community of common interest, purpose and action,” said Schwab. “We need a change of mindset, moving from short-term to long-term thinking, moving from shareholder capitalism to stakeholder responsibility. Environmental, social and good governance have to be a measured part of corporate and governmental accountability,” he added.

It is very encouraging to see the heads of corporations such as Microsoft, Mastercard and BP taking part in this initiative. This is the kind of 'trickle down' that works.

:thumbsup::)

Same here, I love that.

I like seeing Twitter and Facebook doing very good things in the global community (YES REALLY).

Giving money out, homes for the homeless, being more open about their trials and errors, engaging their users.

Working with other corporations.

Listening to their critics and adopting those changes.

Circular Economy is so much more than recycling. It's seeing the effects of your actions and reducing harm on Earth.

Of course I would be so much happier if these entities worked to flatten the difference in income between the poor and the rich by influencing governments to change the tax laws.

I know Bill Gates has said he'd pay more tax.

Same with Warren Buffett.

Look into it. They may already have changed laws. Tax laws are ugly, convoluted, and complicated. Minor tweaks may mean big differences.

That would make me happier too, though I'm still happy with them.

They give a good share to the lesser-advantaged.

Sigh. A few, very few, rich people may say (even believe) that the rich should pay more tax and the poor pay less and get improved basic necessities of life but there are a who lot more (the Koch Brothers, for example) who promote Laissez-faire capitalism and believe that the poor deserve to be poor because they aren't smart enough. The Trickle-down Theory of taxation has been the economic driving force in most of the World for some decades now. Trickle Down really means piss on their heads.

I'll stand by and wait for our right leaning members to find this thread. If this is a derail, Moderators do your thing.

Coronavirus lockdown meets Capitalism meets Circular Economy meets Charity:

End to 'take, make, dispose' model
Good360 is part of a larger movement hoping to encourage the development of a circular economy which redistributes and repurposes waste items, rather than the "take, make, dispose" model where excess products end up in landfill.

While Good360 deals with new products, Brisbane-based social enterprise World's Biggest Garage Sale tackles the problem of consumer goods that are no longer fit for sale.

It restores and repairs damaged office furniture sourced from retailer Officeworks. Chairs and desks are then given to charities or sold to support the enterprise.
