I am more pessimistic then ever about a peaceful ouotcome to all this.
I have never in Historyr read where a natoin has gone this far down the path that America is going on and massive political violence has not resulted.

I really don't. The Trumptrash lack organization. As I've said before if you're going to stage a coup, you've got to be all in. The only potential outcomes are win, die, life (or a good chunk of it) in prison (I suppose there could be get shot and then prison). I don't see tons of fun with his AR-15, cool guy rig and sunglasses he bought from Bass Pro Shops because the word, "Tactical" was on the box being that committed. The majority of them will get real mad and then sit on the couch and masturbate to the latest copy of "Guns and Ammo".

We'll have some of these Boogaloo types try some violent actions and isolated incidents but if Biden wins, our government will transition.

...I got $Billions out of China, and gave much of it to our targeted farmers!

I know one trump supporter who trump lost because of this nonsense. It should read:

I got $Billions out of China American importers and consumers, and gave much of it to our targeted farmers!

Even some conservative pundits are beginning to openly state, trump's 'trade wars' have been a disaster.

I think it’s absurd, but perhaps emblematic of a bigger problem, that the Congress is acquiescing to Barr’s late July appearance before them. Why in God’s name is it up to him when to appear?

They should issue a subpoena today, and hold him in contempt if he fails to appear. And be ready to arrest him, and then impeach him for obstruction of justice. Trump’s people are bruising for a Constitutional Crisis - I say let’s give them one.

But they won’t, and Trump’s clear strategy of delay, delay, delay will be allowed once again, with the near certain outcome that Barr will never appear, or if he does it will be so far in the future as to no longer matter.

For me, perhaps the most maddening aspect of all this.

They should issue a subpoena today, and hold him in contempt if he fails to appear. And be ready to arrest him, and then impeach him for obstruction of justice.

The problem is that they've already established the precedent that subpoenas are only a suggestion and can be freely ignored.

Yesterday, my girlfriend came across someone on Facebook arguing the Civil War was about states’ rights.

I just had a horrible thought.

50 years from now, we will probably have overwhelming evidence about President Trump breaking laws, squashing investigations, trying to enrich himself, and generally being self-centered to the detriment of the US. And there will be a swath of citizens saying, “it wasn’t about self-enrichment, it was about presidential rights.”

Yes, some loons will always try to revise history and lie to make it more to their liking.
That's not problem. How will be USA in 50 years is the problem.

There is something rotten in the foundations of the US Democracy, and it is a fundamental misunderstanding of what "Separation of Power" means to do.

Ironically, only Trump currently understands how Separation of Power is supposed to work, and that is by each branch trying to grab as much power for itself as possible, and always forming an alliance with the weaker of the other two branches against the stronger.
Separation of Power is supposed to be like a game of Diplomacy, with everyone working to deny everyone else additional power.

But in the current term, only the Trump White House seeks to expand its power (by pretending it has already that power); meanwhile the Senate acts as if it was part of the White House whilst the House of Representatives is fighting a rear-guard action of what it can ask of the White House and the Courts instead of simply acting as if it got full oversight and subpoena power, naturally.

And the Courts are by far the worst in that they pretend that they are not part of the Separation of Power at all, but "Umpires calling strikes", and letting the center power shift to wherever it may. That is a certain recipe to loss of power.

The Institutions must grow a backbone and assert their rights bestowed upon them by the Constitution instead of expecting everyone else to play nice.

FWIW, they already did investigate and re-investigate Hillary for brazenly political purposes, among a lot of other brazenly political investigations that went nowhere, because their basis was partisan conspiracy theory level crap.

If I understand the Republican bill correctly, it's effectively just saying "let's investigate what the problem is" and not much more. Like that hasn't been done ad nauseum already, with the recommendations almost always ignored.

Elsewhere...

Republican literally try to drown out judiciary hearing on AG Barr by pounding the dais

There's no rule against doing so, after all, perhaps because elected adults are expected to not act like 2 year olds.

You need someone like the House of Commons 'Speaker' to call for order and throw out those that don't .

He doesn't say the USA got billions. He says 'I' got billions.

This is beautiful and will have an enormously positive impact on both foster children and the parents who want to adopt them. Thank you, @realDonaldTrump!

Today, President @realDonaldTrump signed a historic child welfare executive order, bringing all adoption partners to the table, including faith-based organizations & houses of worship, to support our goal of creating a permanent & safe home for every child waiting in foster care.

Yeah, but we'll always have loonies among us. The first Holocaust deniers not only lived through WW2 but would have been old enough to have their sons liberate Buchenwald.

As long as that isn't "official history", you'll be fine.

I was going to make a Hunger Games or Soylent Green joke, but I am worried. I think we are too late to ever bring the National Debt under control - especially with President Trump’s two core principles: “I won’t be alive when the piper will need to be paid so let’s have some fun,” and “I wasn’t just saying it, I really, really believe that I am a stable genius who knows more about everything than anyone.” But, we elected a con artist and cheap huckster who made his empire by bilking sub-contractors and customers, so, you know, he’s not the president that America needs right now but yadda yadda yadda deserves.

I won’t live to see it and I have no power to alter the country’s path, so I try not to think about it without making jokes. (I, for one, will welcome our new Chinese overlords. (haha, it’s funny because it’s true)).

Very sad to see States allowing roving gangs of wise guys, anarchists & looters, many of them having no idea what they are doing, indiscriminately ripping down our statues and monuments to the past. Some are great works of art, but all represent our History & Heritage, both....

....the good and the bad. It is important for us to understand and remember, even in turbulent and difficult times, and learn from them. Knowledge comes from the most unusual of places!

Pres. Obama destroyed the lobster and fishing industry in Maine. Now it’s back, bigger and better than anyone ever thought possible. Enjoy your “lobstering” and fishing! Make lots of money!

It was my great honor to free up 5000 square miles of ocean off the coast of Maine. Enjoy!
