Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 23

Well, given how much they were touting the "one million ticket requests" bit, it highlights two things:

  1. They didn't realize that some individuals were reserving hundreds of tickets each
  2. They set up a system that allowed individuals to reserve hundreds of tickets each

Both of those are major screw-ups on the part of the campaign organizers. Knowing who you sold a ticket to is pretty much a fundamental requirement for any kind of event organizer, even if it's a free event, and they completely dropped the ball on this. And not only did they drop the ball, they acted like they were actually spiking the ball in the end zone.

Still doesn't matter. With total of 800K tickets, that means that 790K would have had to be faked.

This story is, from a big-picture view, quite hilarious. These guys reserved thousands of tickets they never intended to buy in an attempt to keep Trump fans from being able to get them, but the fact that the campaign was fully willing to reserve over a million tickets for an arena that seats 19,000 people meant that nobody who genuinely wanted to attend the rally was actually prevented from getting a ticket. That should mean this effort was an abject failure; but the Trump campaign was able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory because they bragged about having over a million tickets requested, and honestly believed so many people were going to be there that they set up extensive "standing room" outside the arena along with crowd control and all this, and it was never needed. The outdoor reserved spaces reportedly ended up being dismantled in the middle of the rally. The campaign had to pay for all of that, for no reason.

And that's not even getting into how despite the trolling not actually having the intended effect they still couldn't find 19,000 actual Trump fans to fill the rally.

Propaganda machines, such as Townhall.com are saying the arena was packed and that millions watched...
The Trump regime is claiming low turnout due to "radical protestors."

Were there actually any crowds of protesters of appreciable size outside the rally venue? I saw mention of a few sporadic individuals and that was it.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make in replying to my comments.

This was a huge failure on their part. They made the classic blunder of over-promising and under-performing, and they over-promised by a huge margin because, their after-the-fact protestations aside, they were too stupid to realize they were being pranked.

It seems last night trump scraped bottom. But this is not a normal man. Can he regroup? Spin a fantasy about how great Tulsa was? Or is this the start of the decline? The beginning of the end. How would donald trump handle being humiliated on a national stage? Would he do something dramatic? Crazy? Something we never would dream he'd do? Or will just he say, 'Screw it,' throw in his cards and look for a new scam.

I wonder what we'll be talking about next December?

After 4 years you are still assuming that the facts are as the Trump camp says they are? ;) The simplest explanation is that there weren’t a million enquiries.

That's my take on it, too. As usual, Trump just lied in order to make himself look good and his campaign people backed the lie up. NOTHING coming out of Trump should be taken as the truth unless it can be backed up with credible evidence.

As much as I'd love to interpret it as a crushing spiritual blow, I do feel it's necessary to remember that Trump is an old man in poor physical shape. It's not unreasonable that it could be simple physical exhaustion after a long day.

It looks like he can only sip from the glass. It’s about as normal as his weird forward-leaning standing posture.

Even if you assume he doesn't have health issues, then it indicates he seems to be so concerned about what he looks like that he ends up doing things that look far worse than the initial things he was worried about.

worried about what it would look like if he spilled water on his tie?
Solution, drink with two hands like a baby.

worried about what it would look like if he slipped on a ramp?
Solution, shuffle down the ramp like a baby.

worried about not looking tall enough to pull off your BMI?
Solution, do a centaur impression like a baby.

Not that I believe his excuses, but even his solutions are as thick as mince.

Okay, I searched the transcript for "glass" and got this stream of consciousness:

So I put it up to my lip and then I say, “[inaudible]”, and they gave me another disease. They gave me another disease. Anyway, that’s a long story, but here’s the story. I have lived with more the ramp than the water but I have lived with the ramp and the water since I left West Point. Not one media group said I made a good speech or I made a great speech, but the kids loved it because they broke their barrier which wasn’t good in terms of COVID but they broke their barrier and they wanted to shake hands, they wanted to … I don’t want to tell anybody, but there were a couple of kids, they put out their hand, I actually shook their hand, okay? I actually shook them. Because they were excited. They were excited. They were with their president. They were excited. The most beautiful young people. Men, women, the most beautiful young people you’ve ever seen. So think of how you feel if you’re me. I go there, how did I do? “Sir, that was a great speech.” You know all my people, “Sir, that was one of your best, that was great.” I said, “That’s great, I agree, it was a good speech. I like that speech.” They don’t mention the speech but they have been going down this ramp [inaudible]. It’s so unfair. It really is. So unfair. They are among the most dishonest people anywhere on earth. They’re bad people. Bad people.

Okay, that’s enough of that.

Jesus ******* christ.

Unbelievable. Just fricking unbelievable. Did the morons in the arena actually cheer or applaud for that rambling word salad?

6200 in a 20,000 seat arena. Good job Trump campaign!

What I find amazing is the degree to which he let it show. Were I in that boat, knowing the press would be there to watch my return home, I'd try very hard to at least put on a show of "it didn't faze me." I probably couldn't pull it off that well, in that there would likely be some "tells" the press could see when they looked closely, but to put on display for all the world to see just how badly it affected me? I wouldn't.

If this actually marks a turning point in the administration's popularity, I would be ironic to know that of all the things that could sink Trump, it would be one lacklustre rally in Oklahoma. Not the lies, not the incompetence, not the lawsuits and indictments; just one completely visible show of just how far his star has fallen.
