Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 22

Trump seemed to have navigated the down stairs quite well, minimally using the hand rail. No unusual gait, nothing that even a close observer would describe as out of the ordinary. This includes the walk to the helicopter.

Like I said, I think people are putting too much importance on his ramp walk.

I know it's common to dump on Trump for the current horrible economic conditions, especially since he was taking all the credit for the wonderful bull run that started with Obama. But we're in the middle of a friggin pandemic right now! Okay, he botched that response as well.

But even if he had done an exemplary job as president, as far as I know the USA economy would still have taken a terrible beating. Is there a way one could determine the situation would have been improved with a competent leader in charge? For example, unemployment at only 10% in April instead of 14.7%?

I note Canada's rate was 13.7% in May, higher than in April. But it's possible each country determines its rates differently, making a direct comparison difficult.

Oh, I quite agree. But, as you note, he took credit where it wasn't deserved so he can take the blame although some (a lot?) isn't deserved.

The ramp that I descended after my West Point Commencement speech was very long & steep, had no handrail and, most importantly, was very slippery. The last thing I was going to do is “fall” for the Fake News to have fun with. Final ten feet I ran down to level ground. Momentum!

Odd, since it was a bright, clear day and people walking on the lawn didn't get their shoes wet. Oh, I know: someone from the deep state must have watered the ramp just before Trump waddled down it. People do water their ramps, right??

Different situation. During the campaign he was speaking extemporaneously about himself, the only subject on which he's qualified to speak. At West Point, he had to speak on something other than himself and he's just not able to do that. For example, he does ok at his rallies where it is all about TRUMP!!

That said, he's the worst teleprompter reader I've ever seen.

I’d add one step.

I'm betting he'll violate the zoning agreement, be fined, yell, “I’m being targeted and persecuted! Obama would never be treated this way”, refuse to pay the fines, and the appeals will last longer than the rest of his life and he'll hardly spend an hour a year thinking about it.

Appeal for them? Money, first of all. Why are they selected in the first place? Almost certainly, the softcore porn appeal, just like on Fox News, which is part of a larger push to shape and exploit biases.

I'm not sure that money is the prime mover. Flacks like the present Press Secretary and Economic Advisor were probably making a lot more money on TV. Remember what Henry The K said: Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac. I'd put that at or very near the top. Imagine millions of people listening to what you have to say.

He was sort of leaning on the general who was walking immediately beside him all the way. I think I saw Trump ask him to move closer or to keep up with him. I can't be sure, but I suspect Trump was holding his sleeve or jacket or hand.

Oh, and everyone else who walked down the same ramp seconds later did not seem to have any traction problems at all.

Isn't there like small party on one street ? Takeover of Seattle ?

No. Here are two screen grabs that I took while watching this on CNN. The first shows detail of the area (shown in grey):

And here it is in the context of all of Seattle (the tiny grey area just under the "g" of "Google" near the top.

Is that all there is to this "city takeover"?? Because it looks less invasive than a TV production company taking over a few blocks for a few weeks to film a few episodes of some soppy soapy. Of maybe even a comedy series about a psychiatrist and his kooky dad and brother.

I get the same impression. At West Point, he is not only reading from a teleprompter, it may also be the first time he sees the text. He just doesn't do his homework for anything. I think that it is fairly obvious that he didn't write this speech, but that is not unusual. All presidents before him appear to have had speech writers. But he probably also doesn't even read the speech in advance to consider, for instance, when do I make a break to let a point sink in? how do I make this sound as if I'm not reading from a teleprompter?
His lack of preparation becomes obvious when he quite often misinterprets words that he is probably seeing for the first time.

Fair enough. Fame and recognition do indeed have their own charms that frequently weigh more heavily than money.

Pretty much. The right-wing is doing their usual incredibly spittle soaked overreaction for political purposes and that's also contributing to the novelty factor hook for the MSM.

To poke at the ramp discussion, MeidasTouch has an ad out now that includes it prominently.

Is there footage of him getting up to the podium?

He must have done some homework. He is not a guy who would correctly pronounce Bastogne on the first try.

RT if you want to see General Flynn sue the FBI and it’s corrupt actors for all they’re worth and at the same time bring to light all the other information they’re still hiding from the public!

If they delete all the retweets by bots and White House shills, there will be two or possibly three (if Eric remembers how to do an RT) for this.
