Incel blows own hand off making bomb for terror attack

Was that the stuff the Terrorists tried to mix up on an airplane?
It has been popular in the last few years with the bottom end of the terrorist spectrum. No nitrogen, hence it used to be difficult to detect.

Ok. I've been out of the dating scene for quite a few years, and I know things are different now, but, is it really that difficult to find a girl these days?

1. Bathe.
2. Get a job.
3. Go to the gym sometimes.

And, I suppose,

4. Recognize that there aren't enough "hot cheerleaders" to go around, but that when it comes right down to it, most girls are pretty.
I've rarely enter a gym in my life and had issues with companionship. I find being able to speak coherently helps.
OK I haven't been "dating" for a long time (though it's not that long since our third joined us) but it seems simple enough.

Are violent Incels and peanut allergies sort of newish things on this planet? I don't remember them from my past.
Yes and no.
Peanut allergy has been around, at ~1% levels, since humans encountered them (and they're not actually nuts but pulses, closer to peas and beans than genuine tree nuts). In Ye Olde Days it wasn't recognised and sufferers tended to suffer and die.

When incels and femcels come in contact with each other, wouldn't they disappear into .... well, not nothingness, but regular people?

Do incels use their hands? They aren't celibate, technically if they do, are they? Because if they're allowed to do that by their brotherhood, then this accident's just cruel.

There may be some crossover with the Nofap movement.

I actually.googled this, and, Wow, this really is a thing, not just some joke.

If one may speake seriously about a subject begging, screaming, for bad jokes to be tossed out -- he he he, tossed out! -- about it : This is actually a rather wonderful thing. Not the incel thing, nor necessarily the nofap thing, but how the internet lets people who have issues, no matter how entirely weird their issue, to get together and find support. Done right, no doubt lots of people can benefit from this getting together online, no matter how apparently bizarre their particular problem.

And done wrong, we get the OP.

And the Proud Boys.

And the Kardashian's.

A lot of 21st century America, come to think of it.

Defund the Internet.

And people starve themselves to death because of "Pro-ana" support groups.

It can be a wonderful resource if done right, as you noted. The problem is, members of certain groups often don't actually help each other so much as they egg each other on. Gang-stalking support groups are a good example. Sure, it's nice for people experiencing the same delusion to have a place to discuss it, but they end up simply validating each others' delusions, for the most part. No one gets better. If anyone does get better, they tend to leave. (To return to the example of gang-stalking groups, members are likely to be chased out if they begin to verbally doubt the narrative.)

People compare this kind of thing to group therapy, but actual group therapy tends to have a leader of some sort, often a professional, who can help guide the discussion in a healthy way. Without that, all I see is people wallowing in misery together and becoming more extreme. This goes for incel groups, "femcel" groups, pro-ED groups, conspiracy theorists - anything you like. Most mental health support subs on Reddit are dumpster fires. They're great if you want to complain about, romanticize, or meme your experiences, but the majority really aren't useful for healing. I don't think there's a solution to this problem. It is simply a phenomenon that tends to happen when people form interest groups and become devoted to them. In some types of groups, it's not even a bad thing. In other types, however...

Well, you end up with bomb-makers. :(

Thermal, catsmate, and Butter! :

Agreed. I see your point. Support is great and all, but in order to be consistently effective, it needs, at some level, to be professionally guided. Else effective support will come about only by happenstance. I see my POV was kinda not entirely fully thought through. Incels ending up as they do isn't the anomaly, isn't the exception: misguided support isn't necessarily a good idea, I see that, yes.

It's funny: that's exactly what I think these discussion threads should be for, to hear things out and catch a different perspective. Too often we just dig in and argue a side. Kudos to ya

In order for any form of therapy to be effective, the afflicted has to accept they have a problem and want to change that.
The incel, pro-ana and and similar fora actively discourage both of these steps.

Well, it often depends on the subject matter at hand too. Certain topics seem to fare much better in informal, unguided discussion settings. Others get scary. But you definitely weren't entirely wrong.
