Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 22

It shouldn't take more than a day to tell EVERY Trump appointee to use the nearest exit. Having an empty post is better than one filled by a Trump lickspittle.
No, I wouldn't fire them. That's a Trump tactic. Instead, I would keep them employed...but demote the heck out of them and make them atone for their sins by having to enact the new government's policies.

For example, have them posted as "local managers" to rural outposts where their former policies hit the hardest - Rocken Sands NV or Upperholler WV, for example. Then make it their job descriptions to undo the hurt, face-to-face with the very people they were so dismissive of. And grade them on their performance. And put it in their resumes.

Actually, firing Political Appointees is routine when adminstrations change.
In the US Fedral Government, there is clear line between the professional ,permanent federal employess who have civil service protection, and the political apointess who "serve at the President's pleasure".
The idea is that a elected President can pout people in policy making positions who agree with his policies, on the grounds that the people of the US voted for said policies.
The technical term is SES Special Executive Schedule;;they get the same pay and benefits as a permanent federal employee, but have no civil service protection .Every time the White House changes hands, the SES hires get removed. Routine.
There are exceptions...like federal judges, but most political hires know if their man loses the election, they are toast unless they can find a way to transfere to the permanent federal work force. And even if they can do that, their new position is much less powerful.

By that I assume you mean "Republican congressmen will work to enact rules that obstruct any attempt by Biden to fix Trump's damage, until some point when another Republican wins the white house, at which time those rules can be relaxed because Republican presidents can always be trusted".

Exactly!

And I further predict bills limiting a president’s power will not be passed until Jan 19 (because the GOP surely wouldn’t want to limit the office of the president while there was a chance that Trump might win a court challenge.).

Understood that's convention. But Trump has broken every convention. So do the unconventional in return.

The highlighted part is interesting. What would stop the incoming administration forcing selected SES hires into the permanent federal workforce but at a MUCH lower pay-grade and at a VERY rural location a long way from home. They can either take it...or resign.

Chainsaw-wielding racist gets boosted by a top Trump aide as race protests sweep the nation
The activity by a senior Trump campaign adviser, and former White House aide, reflects a broader movement by some Republicans to attack the protests against police brutality.

I love this quote from your story.

“I deeply apologize and I retweeted without watching the full video. I deleted the tweet,” Schlapp wrote. “I would never knowingly promote the use of that word. This is time for healing the nation and not division.”

So, she's basically saying that she's ok with chasing people and threatening them with a chain saw, but when she turned off the video before he used the N word.

Is she lying, or stupid? Oh wait. False dichotomy.

That actually made me drop my head onto the desk.

Modern political spin: be as despicable as you want, just please HIDE THE RACISM! Polite fascist violence at all times, please.

Trump Tweeted

Much smaller crowd in D.C. than anticipated. National Guard, Secret Service, and D.C. Police have been doing a fantastic job. Thank you!

@CNN & MSDNC are doing everything possible to “inflame” the crowd. Fortunately they have a very small audience!

How does Donald Trump know how large the crowd is when he’s hiding in his basement bunker with the three fences and concrete barriers??

His twitter followers are posting pictures of people at the edge of the crowd claiming there aren't many protestors. Pictures of Black Lives Matter Plaza and the the National Mall show it dwarfs his inauguration crowd.

Biden War Room tweeted

Biden War Room (Text UNITED to 30330)
@BidenWarRoom
Top five recent crowds on the national mall:
1. Obama's 2008 Inauguration
2. Obama's 2012 Inauguration
3. Million Man March
4. BLM Protests
5. Anti-Trump protests

Not on this list? Trump's puny, pathetic, inauguration crowd.

I have always thought that flag burning was an incredibly stupid thing to do, guaranteed to alienate people rather then listen to your point of view, but I actually am beginning to agree with you.

I am not coming around.

Burning a flag means rejecting a symbol of the United States and comes across as opposing the U.S. That will cement the idea that the opposition is on the side of the U.S. This will suggest that a vote for anyone but Trump is a vote "against" the U.S.

Such protests solidify Trump's support, leading to folks who are reluctant supporters to become committed supporters.

It's a dumb move.

Colin Powell announces he will vote for Joe Biden on @CNNSotu with @jaketapper
“I cannot in ANY way support President Trump this year”

A study was conducted by the CDC that I never would have expected to see ...

CDC said:
Thirty-nine percent of respondents reported engaging in nonrecommended high-risk practices with the intent of preventing SARS-CoV-2 transmission, such as washing food products with bleach, applying household cleaning or disinfectant products to bare skin, and intentionally inhaling or ingesting these products.

Trump Tweets

Sleepy Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats want to “DEFUND THE POLICE”. I want great and well paid LAW ENFORCEMENT. I want LAW & ORDER!

Yes, size of direct action events seems to be down.

We shall see if it is merely waning interest or more people realizing violent resistance is the form we are most outmatched at. It may have some purpose at times, but economic weapons (boycotts are the public's form of sanctions), social weapons, and psychological weapons are there, too. Those mess with power in ways that catch them off balance, and are harder to shoot at or beat with a stick.

Americans have it a bit backwards. Concentrated, daily (and nightly) protests are the culmination of months-to-years long planning initiatives, loosely coordinated among scores of entities bringing different demographics and perspectives to bear.

Lots of community meetings, smaller demonstrations with more satirical street theater flair (die-ins, lampooning, etc), swarming local council meetings, convincing other people of a different point of view (we really hate this one). Things that take time and crowd out binging Netflix and folding laundry and...wait, where are the kids?

Trump Tweets

I have just given an order for our National Guard to start the process of withdrawing from Washington, D.C., now that everything is under perfect control. They will be going home, but can quickly return, if needed. Far fewer protesters showed up last night than anticipated!

It must be killing Trump that for 12 days now the size of the crowds of protesters has dwarfed his Inauguration crowd

What about burning one of those desecrated flags? The ones cops made for themselves to have their own symbol apart from the rest of the US.

That ought to work. ;)

I had to laugh at a comment I read the other day on, I think Twitter. That the police role in all this has largely been as counter-demonstrators. And very violent ones, at that!

Well naturally, if they're going to counter demonstrate to a demonstration of "Black Lives Matter" they'll have to demonstrate that, at least to them, they don't.
