Hmm. Where are all of Trump's defenders at in the forum?
As brave as their fuhrer.

President Trump gets tough on violence and anarchy in the USA. He is right and decent people will back him all the way.
I absolutely agree. It made my mouth drop when I saw the photos! Trump looked so uncomfortable holding the bible; he looked as if he expected it to bust into an avenging beam of flame and incinerate him in a recapitulation of the famous scene in Raiders of the Lost Arc.
And now it's being reported that Barr "personally" ordered the protestors cleared out. Which I might even believe if Trump didn't have a long history of getting lackeys to fall on their swords and claim responsibility for his cock ups the second it looks bad on him. What a ******* coward.
There are so many levels on which it's insane. Attacking and gassing peaceful protesters to get them out of the area before his arrival isn't even the most insane. That was just painful to watch. He comes across as such a boob...at least to anyone not a MAGA diehard. I've read some twitter remarks by supporters that actually found that 'presidential'. Doesn't take much for some, I guess.
No, this stunt was too insane to have come from anyone but Trump himself. They didn't even bother contacting the church beforehand, just showed up and tear gassed the clergy who were there as well with the protestors. The photo op was terrible, but that wasn't the point. The optics he was interested in had already happened: he was trying to show he'd be willing to order protestors gassed and beaten just for getting in his way. There are so many levels on which it's insane. There isn't even the possibility of a single mind changed or vote obtained by this kind of photo op. Why? Because it says nothing. "Hey, the President is standing in front of a church [awkwardly] holding a bible and...?" What's the next step? Did someone suggest something more elaborate and potentially meaningful* (like appearing with at least one local DC community leader) and someone else shrugged and said "too much work," countering with the suggestion of just having Trump appear alone with a bible? Seriously, that's not just dumb, it's insane. In fact, if I had a more conspiratorial mindset I'd suggest that the person who proposed this is deliberately undermining Trump. If that's true, then props.
*It of course wouldn't be meaningful because Trump would be involved and even a pretense of humanity is beyond him.

It is hard for me, as for you, to understand how a religious person could not look at that footage and realize how Trump's "religious belief" is a complete fraud and snow job.
I think that's the essence of a bad photo op. The politician is doing something to make himself appear something that he clearly is not.
The three examples I gave by Democrats were all situations where they wanted to prove something. John Kerry was basically saying, "Democrats aren't soft on foreign affairs, because I served in Vietnam!" (To this day, if Rush Limbaugh ever says John Kerry's name, he says, "John Kerry, who served in Vietnam..."
So here's Trump saying, "I am a pious man because I am holding a Bible in front of a church!"
At least, I hope anyone except his core followers who have already drunk the Kool-Aid will have the same reaction most of us had.
Come on, in political faux pas the president has done that should have killed him this is at best a 3/10. It's no grab them by the pussy tape for sure.
He never even explained what he was doing, just took photos. Incompetent.
...
That picture of him standing there like an imbecile must get used in an attack ad.

To me, when the "grab them by the pussy" tape came out, my biggest thought was actually. "Hillary. Stop talking about this! No one cares!"
It's hard to say, because I already hated Trump so it's somewhat difficult to put myself in a position of a Trump lover, or even a lukewarm Trump voter.
To me, when the "grab them by the pussy" tape came out, my biggest thought was actually. "Hillary. Stop talking about this! No one cares!" It was the Saturday before the election when I spent a lot of time in my car, and heard that on a Hillary commercial played over and over again that I first started getting nervous.
In other words, at that time, a lot of Democrats were saying, "We've got him!", but I, and apparently somewhere close to half the voters were saying, "I don't care." I thought that was the most overplayed moment of the campaign.
I have a different feeling this time. It was so staged. So obviously phony. Will it actually matter? Time will tell. I just think the "I'm going to use a church and a Bible as a prop" motif doesn't play well. I wish I could read the minds of Trump voters, or people who would consider voting for him, to see how this played.
