My avatar is not a Drumpf hat
I made the distinction in one of the "while black" threads in Social Events --I'm fine with protests, I'm even fine with angry protesters, but I'm not fine with violence towards officers, or destruction of peoples' cars, houses, or livelyhoods -- and was informed that the blacks had to riot, that everything else had been tried and nothing else worked, and that either way it only led to damage to buildings, which could be repaired or rebuiltIt's not so hard to say 'We are with protesters, BUT not with the looters'. Most people are either 'looting is bad, also protesters, also black' or 'black are good, protesters are good, and police started it anyway'.
Actually Trump is one of the few who explicitly makes the difference between protesters and looters, and he even goes extra step to blame looting on Antifa, which is certainly not black organization. Sure, he has his own reasons. He doesn't want people to think racial issues got out of hand, it's Antifa who got out of hand. And he wants to look strong without antagonizing black voters (however few he might have). But he makes the distinction.
I didn't return. It was like being in the Israel-Palestine threads again and having to listen to the Usual Suspects pretending that killing innocent children with bombs and rockets "is the only thing the Palestinainas have to fight with", as if guerilla fighters and peaceful resistance suddenly seizes to exist once the topic is the Middle East.
