We know why Arbery kept running towards the McMichaels. Roddy was behind him, chasing him in another car.

Seriously, Arbery has already had people from 2 different houses in this neighborhood grab their guns, run to their cars and chase him. Yet you keep suggesting that he should have tried his luck doing the very thing the gun toting vigilantes said they were chasing him for, and he had no way of knowing that they wouldn't shoot him or that yet another gun toting vigilante wouldn't jump out of whatever house he picked to run through that yard. In your zeal to figure out what he did wrong you are ignoring the known facts.

They might or they might not

One of the things they may do is bank on the chance that there may be at least one or two "I ain't never gonna convict a good ol' boy who done killed a ******" rednecks on the jury. The defence may sue for (or accept) a plea deal once they see what the jury looks like.

Armed men in vehicles chasing you down and you would still trust them not to murder you? I'll take my chances with actively defending myself if I'm blocked.

The stupid decisions here are:
1. Three people get in two vehicles
2. Two of them decide to brings loaded guns
3. All three of them decide to chase some other guy down

Take away any one of these and there is almost certainly one less dead guy.

Should being white give them immunity from their stupid decisions?

It would appear the McMichaels had no idea they made stupid decisions. As far as I understand it was the McMichaels who released the video of the shooting to show the stupidity of Arbery.

The decision to chase and shoot Arbery appears to have been accepted as extremely reasonable since they would not have been prosecuted at all even though investigators had the same video in their possession.

The killing of black males in America seems to be more than just racism.

People like him wouldn't trust a black guy not to kill him if the black guy were in a business suit, holding a briefcase, walking out of an office building.

Travis should have stayed home and minded his own business. You can hardly fault the victim for defending himself from Travis's stupidity. Everything here stems from the stupidity of these two morons. All these moron crackers had to do was stay home. They chose not to and ended up murdering someone.

No you see he's suppose to run forever from the pickup truck and at the same meekly submit to their "Citizens Arrest Authority" that they didn't actually have in this scenario.

It's the whole scream "Don't move! Put your hands on your head!" at them and then shoot them for not doing whichever of the two directly contradictory things they didn't do tactic again.

You seem awfully critical of the GTFOOT approach. You have a better one? We saw how the Superman approach worked. Is that what you think is optimum?

Their bullets (that at least Travis was ready and willing to use) can outrun Arbery. He knew this. You know this. You know they claimed they were chasing him for doing what you suggest he do in front of them again. Even with the luxury of sitting at your computer and not running for your life you know this is a stupid suggestion for him that would in no way mitigate the risks he was facing. Given that from his perspective 2 different cars full of gun toting vigilantes ran out to chase him, he had no reason to feel safe from any house/yard full of unknown quantities of gun toting citizens willing to stand their ground against a man with a scary haircut barreling towards their house.

Then what were his options? No more weaseling.

1. Keep running past them
2. Surrender/comply
3. Go wrestle the gun with two other armed rednecks backing him up
4. GTFOOT off the road

Option 1 was effectively working up to that point
Option 2 is not an option, IMO.
Option 3...well, we saw it couldn't have been a worse choice
Option 4 eod likely have worked as option one had been working , but with finality. Unless you are theorizing neighbors in snipers nests or murderous quick draw artists lounging on their back porches


So let's hear it. What is your so much better option?
