Now he's escalated to attempting to intimidate entire states! There must be something illegal in this.
Breaking: Michigan sends absentee ballots to 7.7 million people ahead of Primaries and the General Election. This was done illegally and without authorization by a rogue Secretary of State. I will ask to hold up funding to Michigan if they want to go down this Voter Fraud path!

State of Nevada “thinks” that they can send out illegal vote by mail ballots, creating a great Voter Fraud scenario for the State and the U.S. They can’t! If they do, “I think” I can hold up funds to the State. Sorry, but you must not cheat in elections

That's the narrative, but not the facts.

Mexico is not paying for the wall and only a very few illegal immigrants come into the country that way.
He is not giving us cheaper healthcare. He's done nothing to provide cheaper healthcare. In fact, he hasn't offered any kind of plan that would.
He has only lowered taxes on the very wealthy
Trump blames everyone else for his failures.
Trump promised he would bring back coal. Hillary told them no one could. Trump not only didn't bring back coal, he has seen the decline of coal accelerating. Simple solutions are rare and usually wrong.
He projects an image of a successful businessman? How does he do that? By bankrupting businesses and cheating investors?

I guess I understand feeling threatened. But personally, I want the people making the decisions to be smarter than me. I'll take an MIT grad over the neighbor I play softball and drink beer with.

And while White, Male, Christian gun owners may feel oppressed, the fact is they're not. Unless of course, you call not being able to hunt black people for sport oppression.

Short answer: in the primaries, the crazy vote went to Trump. The sane vote was split between the clown-car of candidates.

Long answer:
* a flawed primary system that allows 3-4 states to decide who gets to run for President,
* all the reasons mentioned upthread.
* his ability to lie with an unmatched confidence.
* his image - as Fran Leibowitz observed

* his recognizability from being on TV.
